Featured in the Doomsday Book in 1086 (as Echintune) the Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul dates back as far as 1100 in some areas. Eckington also has a small coal mine, the Eastern part of the village, one of the very few in the country which still operates.
Local attractions include Renishaw Hall, a 400 year old Manor House.
