TurnKey Linux is a family of lightweight, installable Live CD software appliances, which are assembled (with minor exceptions) from unmodified Ubuntu packages, and are pre-integrated to satisfy a specific usage scenario.
The Live CDs are designed to provide users with an easy to use, turnkey operating system environment that is optimized for the task at hand.
The project's motto is "everything that can be easy, should be easy".
Technical highlights
- Based on Ubuntu 8.04.1 (Hardy LTS).
- MacOS X themed web administration interface
- Easy to use configuration console (written from scratch in Python)
- Minimal footprint (typically around 150 MB) - each appliance is built from the ground up with the minimum components needed to serve its role.
- Packaged as an installable Live CD (I.e., bootable ISO) that can run on real hardware in addition to most types of virtual machines.
- Features a new installer, di-live that is based on debian-installer but capable of running in a Live CD environment.
