The Venus Project is a social, cultural and technological proposal which aims to create a society free from the problems inherent in current global systems. Started around 1975 by Jacque Fresco and Roxanne Meadows. Jacque Fresco is a self-described social designer with no formal university education. Roxanne Meadows is a former portrait artist.

Fresco and Medows live and work together at a 25 acre property in Venus, Florida, recently this property has been put up for sale .

The Venus Project is featured in the popular film Zeitgeist : Addendum .

Beliefs

The Venus Project is founded on the idea that many social problems of today, especially poverty, are caused by both a lack of technology, which would make more resources available to more people, and human values, such as independence, which make people less likely to help others. And that in the future, human values will be radically changed by the lack of scarcity of resources brought about by new technology .

Fundamental to the project is the elimination of the current monetary-based economy and the creation of a purely resource-based economy, as well as a focus on the improvement on technologies.

Public Response

According to a 2008 interview with Fresco and Meadows, Fresco's lack of credentials has made it difficult for him to gain clout in academic circles, he also says that universities which invite him to speak don't give him enough time to explain his views.
