Biography
His father, Surinder Kapoor, is a film producer. One of his brothers, Boney Kapoor, is a director; another brother, Sanjay Kapoor, is also an actor, although much less famous than Anil. This branch of the Kapoors is only distantly related to the famous Kapoor Bollywood film clan. He is an alumnus of the National School of Drama (1980 batch).
Film Career
Anil Kapoor appeared in a few minor roles, then starred in the 1983 film Woh Saat Din (Those seven days). His career took off with the blockbuster Ram-Lakhan in which he co-starred with Jackie Shroff. Anil starred with Madhuri Dixit in the 1989 hit movie Tezaab. He also apppeared in Mr.India, Lamhe, Parinda, and Kishan Kanhaiya. He won critical acclaim for his role as a freedom fighter in the 1993 movie 1942: A Love Story.
His performance in Tezaab won him the Filmfare Best Actor Award, this was followed by another Filmfare Award for his superb performance in Beta. His success at the box office continued. He followed this with a critically acclaimed performance in Pukar, for which he received the National Award for Best Actor.
His most recent release is the 2005 My Wife's Murder. The film has not been an immediate hit, but his brilliant performance won the people and critics over. He recently had a hit with the multi-starrer, No Entry. Though he is doing films which garner critical acclaim rather than box office success, he has established himself as one of the most prominent actor in the industry.
Personal Life
Anil is married to Sunita Kapoor and has two daughters. His daughter, Sonam Kapoor will make her debut alongside Ranbir Kapoor, the son of actor Rishi Kapoor, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next.
