"Hey You"
Song

"Hey You" is a pop charity song by American singer-songwriter Madonna. It was co-written and co-produced by Pharrell. It was released as part of the Live Earth campaign, and Madonna performed the song as part of the Live Earth global concerts on July 7, 2007.

Song history

The song is a re-working of the leaked demo of "Keep The Trance" which was omitted from the Confessions on a Dance Floor studio album. It contains many identical lyrics, was co-written and produced by Mirwais Ahmadzaï and had a completely different structure; it is an up-tempo electronica/dance song differing greatly from "Hey You".

The song was made available to be downloaded in MP3 and WMA formats on MSN. Microsoft pledged to donate $0.25 per download to the Alliance for Climate Protection for the first million downloads of the track.

The free download was only available for one week, it is now available to buy from sites such as iTunes. No physical CD or other format was released. The Live Earth performance of the song was included on the Live Earth CD released in November 2007.

Music video

The music video was created by Johan Söderberg and Marcus Lindkvist to support Live Earth: The Concerts For a Climate in Crisis. Söderberg directed the "Sorry Remix" video backdrop for the Confessions Tour and edited both the "Hung Up" and "Sorry" music videos as well as footage from I'm Going To Tell You A Secret documentary.

The video did not feature any new footage of Madonna; it contained images of different cultures, world leaders, the problems facing the world today, and global warming. It premiered online at the Live Earth website and on several MTV stations worldwide on June 15, 2007.

Charts

"Hey You" was not released as a proper single, and to no surprise had virtually no radio airplay anywhere in the world. It was only promoted through the official Live Earth website and the 7 July 2007 concert in London. There was no physical single released.
