His supporters present him as one of the leading figures in Turkish creationism. His critics point to recurring accusations of sexual molestation and drug use against his supporters, including one that is brought up by former model Ebru Simsek after a sex tape surfaced, and the trial is yet to be concluded.
Oktar has written numerous books using the pen name Harun Yahya arguing against theory of evolution. He is also a fervent antisemitist, claiming holacaust never happened and is a myth. His supporters have translated many of Oktar's books and pamphlets into other languages.
Oktar has been held in a mental institution for some time. His supporters claim he is presecuted as a religioius figure. His critics point to the fact that he is not an Islamic leader in the tradational sense; his followers actively recruit from the young and wealthy segment of the Turkish elite, and the members of the sect live a luxurious life, reminescent of Scientology in the US.
