Mesa Arizona Easter Pageant DYK

I might play up the presence of that football player as a Roman soldier in the pageant -- that is actually very interesting as a DYK hook! Ecoleetage (talk) 03:58, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Good idea, but how would I word it so it's a hook for the new pageant page and not for the football player? --Eustress (talk) 04:03, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Just ID it as a new pageant in the hook. Ecoleetage (talk) 04:05, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Yaaq

Thanks for catching my mistake, but the article in question didn't refer to the place as it was talking about Adansonia digitata. I shouldn't do more than one thing at a time :) -Yupik (talk) 22:58, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

And AFAIK should be in that sentence. My Somali skills stink, so I won't go out on a limb about it (no pun intended :)). -Yupik (talk) 23:00, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I don't know about the arboreal connection. But in any event, I can proudly proclaim "I'm a Yaaqi Doodle Dandy!" (I hope there's no hitherto unknown policy about getting blocked for bad puns!) Ecoleetage (talk) 00:10, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

BorgQueen (talk) 21:27, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Enough already.

Seriously, the RfA is over, can you just stop with the false allegations? I didn't respond in a hostile manner to everyone, just to you...because you had to pick a fight with me. The only time I used "sarcastic" edit summaries was with you. Ask yourself why. And as for Keepscases, I said nothing about him that wasn't backed by some evidence. The guy spends more time at RfAs than working on actual content, and he gave a really dumb reason for opposing me, after never having spoken to me on here.

I think you're just bitter about not having made RfA, and now you want to tear others down as well. --Eastlaw (talk) 23:00, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Life?

Life is not mistreating me at all; it's snowing, I'm often busy thinking, socializing, or socializing and thinking simultaneously, and the holidays approach! My work on wiki has been toned down some because I am constantly so busy, but I'm on at least once every day. I see that you've been exceeding standards and breaking DYK records. Good job. Thanks for your careful consideration at my successful RfA. "clearly in tune with the project" was generous and appreciated. Please let me know on my talk page if you have any suggestions for me. - Dan Dank55 (send/receive) 20:21, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Care to have a look and advise?

Why does this not show up as a 2nd AfD within three weeks for the same article... one that was kept as "Keep" and not simply no consensus? Without that prior history infobox at the AfD, editors might think it a first AfD and not follow the history. Plus, I am agrieved that a "definite keep" from 3 weeks earlirer can be ignored. I know that consensus can change... but in 3 weeks?? Is this proper procedure? Doesn't such an early return to AfD, without allowing concerns at an earlier AfD to be addressed kinda fall under WP:NOTAGAIN? If the artilce had mot been improved in 6 months, I might understand... but 3 weeks? Schmidt, 22:18, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes, you are actually in the right queue! That made my day that! Hey btw, are you an admin, because if you like (or if I am alright to do this!) I would be very happy to nominate you and I think you would definately suceed. It is up to you. Andy (talk) 19:16, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

No, I am not an admin. I had an RfA in early September, but it didn’t quite turn out the way I hoped. But I have a saying: when life hands you lemons, get out the vodka and tonic -- at this mop-free moment in time, la vie est belle (I am closing in on my 100th DYK honour, which is occupying much of my attention now). Anyone is able to nominate someone for adminship, and I am flattered that you would consider me. Ecoleetage (talk) 19:45, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Good luck with your DYK, many of yours I have seen. Regarding rfa, i am surprised it did not pass with flying colours and I would be happy to nominate you if you wanted. Nice quote by the way (lemons, vodka etc, sounds good to me!) Andy (talk) 19:58, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

re:Adminship

I don't know exactly what you want from me, but if you want to follow through on your threat to derail my future rfa, that's fine. It's really not going to bother me if it fails, and if you feel the need to retaliate... go for it. Adminship isn't a big deal to me, though I think I'd be okay at it. I'll be sure to let you know when it goes live. --AniMate 06:04, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

I am not threatening to derail anything, nor do I have the power to do such a thing. I am giving you a heads up because I feel that some of your previous actions are problematic and may not stand up to RfA scrutiny. This is not the first time that I've warned people in advance of an RfA of what might be a weak link in their chain. I've seen a lot of worthy RfA candidates get kneecap-whacked with gotcha-style surprises. If anything, I am extending a courtesy of previewing what you may encounter if this goes live. Thank you and be well. Ecoleetage (talk) 11:54, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
What you're doing is wildly inappropriate. No one sprung "gotcha-style surprises" on you, and issuing veiled threats (whatever you call them, that's what they are) isn't helping your case any should you choose to stand again at RfA. D.D.J.Jameson 13:25, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
For the record, I plan to support the AniMate RfA when it goes live. I only wanted to call attention to a possible problem before the RfA takes place. I am truly sorry to see that a genuine act of good faith is being seen as something it is not. Ecoleetage (talk) 13:42, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I went ahead and collapsed the discussion on my talk page. I believe you when you say your comment was misinterpreted. As to nominating me, you can coordinate that with Alasdair once I have regular access to computers again. Thanks for your (future) support. AniMate 04:39, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
And thank you for being such a class act! I have been upset all day that this got so out of hand -- it must have been a real "WTF?" moment when you clicked on the site today! I will get in touch with Alasdair to arrange this. Be well. Ecoleetage (talk) 04:44, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Just a heads up, but Alasdair went ahead and put the RfA up. I'm really not sure of the protocol, but as soon as I saved the changes I thought I might need to wait for your co-nom. If you're still interested in co-nominating feel free (if that's allowed now that I accepted), otherwise feel free to participate however you feel comfortable. --AniMate 23:16, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Reread the section on nominating and apparently co-nominating after transclusion is frowned upon. Thank you for offering though, I really did appreciate it. AniMate 23:43, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
It's my fault. As long as I didn't transclude the RfA you could have still co-nominated. I plead dinner with the extended family and all the accompanying stress, since I got online to distract myself from the relentless holiday stress. AniMate 01:46, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

BorgQueen (talk) 14:42, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks so much for the barnstar, it means a lot. I know I irritate people on here, but at the same time, I am just not sure if those people get what I am saying. I would never have any problem with someone proclaiming themselves an atheist or any religion, I am just sick of the smug, sarcastic and offensive userboxes that others insist are okay. Keepscases (talk) 17:30, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

It is too easy for people to misunderstand what others are trying to say. In concept, being able to write everything out should make communications easier. In reality, however, it appears this is the worst way to get messages across. In this medium, we are lacking a face, a voice and an organic give-and-take that comes in real life/real time conversation, it is too easy to misconstrue a message. Likewise, not everyone is a sterling communicator and ideas can easily get garbled or points left out, which can result in confusion or worse. (I have expertise on that front.) Since most messaging here is limited to one, two or three sentences (especially in the RfA forums), there is no real conversation as we know it in the offline world. And if you add the controversies that inevitably swirl around religion or politics, you might as well just open your gas tank and toss in a burning match – you’ll get the same effect, but faster and without having to run a spell check first! Ecoleetage (talk) 20:15, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

RfA for Wehwalt

Support #19. An honest question here. Why was it an appropriate support for you to engage and dispense with opposing concerns for that RfA but was a problem when I did it at NWF's? I'm not trying to rile you up or invoke drama (I would have made some remark on either RfA page if I wanted to do that). I just want to get some clarity here. Protonk (talk) 20:22, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

You know, I am always fascinated that people take anything I say so seriously (trust me, I am not that special in the real world). But to answer the question, we are talking about two very different situations. My concerns raised with Wehwalt’s opposers appear to be a systemic problem to RfA in general – taking isolated comments out of context and magnifying them to the point that they obscure an excellent body of work. The problem of disqualifying a candidate for one or two brief, fleeting lapses does a disservice to the process and is unfair to the candidate – it happens too often and I would like to see it stop. I did not go out and directly challenge Wehwalt’s opponents – I challenged a mindframe that sinks too many qualified RfA candidates. Ironically, the editor who put those diffs forward isn’t even opposing the candidate – that !vote went to the neutral base. NWF is a completely different matter, where you addressed a trio of situation-unique opinions from three different editors. The problems raised in that RfA were distinctive to NWF. I was raging against the system, you were correcting me and those other two guys (those other two guys and I? Those guys and me? Anyone? TSP grammar experts, jump in, please). Does that make sense? In a way, I am sorry you came in too early with NWF – no one took my babbling seriously, but it seems East718’s points (which came up the next day) were the iceberg for that RfA cruise, and refuting him would’ve saved the endeavour. Ecoleetage (talk) 20:45, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't think I came in too early or too late, per se. I've rarely seen an RfA turn on a single 'support' comment--the same not being true for single opposes. My concern is that you seem to (from the various comments at NWF's RfA) object to refutation of opposing comments in support votes. I know you oppose badgering generally (I don't, only because it is so hard to tell when it happens), but I wanted to be sure we were on the same page. It's not so much that I take what you say "seriously" (where seriously means I get upset about them or stew) rather than just reading closely (where I figure you have something important to say and it might bear out paying attention). I see in Wehwalt's case people taking 3-4 recent diffs and extrapolating them to mean "this person BITEs newbies". Arguably that could be construed as an aberration in an otherwise helpful career. But so could some of the points raised about NWF. I think where we place those on that continuum has more to do with our "feel" for the candidate than anything else. Take my RfA for example. There could have been a hundred well composed oppose votes written about me from a hundred separate diffs. The fact that people chose not to do that has more to do with their "feel" of how I would be as an admin than it does the representative nature of those diffs. Maybe that's where the Wehwalt/NWF split occurs. I don't know, so I asked. :) And I think it is "those other guys and me" because you would say "you were correcting me" in the absence of the other guys--that's the quick and dirty check for I/me usage. Protonk (talk) 20:57, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I would need to disagree because Wehwalt is being cited for one infraction (biting) whereas NWF’s opponents raised a variety of problems. At that level, the two candidates have nothing in common. I object to a barrage of refutations of oppose !votes for one reason and one reason only – it is a self-inflicted wound by the candidate and/or his supporters. Every time I raise a concern that people are trying to talk down the opposition, it is NOT because I don’t like to have my opinions challenged. Quite the opposite – I love a spirited discussion. And I don’t care if people find fault with my logic. Someone made a deliciously sarcastic crack at my expense in the NWF debate, and if I had his address I’d send him a magnum of champagne as commendation for deftly playing me as the fool (I won’t say who it was, but I can say I admired the wisdom of his remarks). Hey, you refuted me and I answered with a jokey reference to “Let it Be” and a smile – you one-upped me, and I admit it, happily. One refutation, no sweat. Two, okay. Three, a bit of overkill. But I object to excessive refutation, as per NWF's case, and when it happens I raise my voice because I am trying to warn the supporters that they are hurting their chances by constantly undercutting the other side. We just had a withdrawn RfA where the candidate (who should’ve passed the test) went after everyone who disagreed with him, with predictable results. Mae West said too much of a good thing is wonderful -- but she never did RfA, otherwise she'd have refutations as a big caveat.Ecoleetage (talk) 21:20, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, NWF may have been bound for that result before you or I commented. You are right that Wehwalt and NWF faced distinct paths and different objections. It was probably inartful of me to compare the two comments so glibly. And I think the badgering is worse in NWF's (God I really wish that date/time formatting thing would go away)--no doubt there. Oh, and as for the reference: I'm dumb like that. :) You've really got to spell it out for me unless you are referencing: Navy slang, The Simpsons, Star Trek, Mel Brooks, gamer jargon...and other typical while male under the age of 30 stuff. A reference to let it be as a coded sign for me to take it easy is about as clear (to me) as a reference to The Mayor of Casterbridge. anyways, take it easy...er...."did we pass the audition?" :) Protonk (talk) 00:12, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
The quote I gave was from John Lennon at the very end of the film and the album for the Beatles' "Let it Be," when the band finished their rooftop concert. I would be interested in how many people caught that remark -- I put the statement in quotes just to tip off that I was making a reference to another source. Still, I appreciate your input and I am flattered that you think my opinions are worth consulting or refuting. :) Ecoleetage (talk) 00:42, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Oh my god. I should have caught that! Only because it is parodied at the very end of the Simpsons episode, Homer's Barbershop Quartet. As for people thinking about your input--take it as a compliment (which you seem to). I think that when you choose to argue something earnestly, people listen. Protonk (talk) 01:00, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Oh, you need to see the real thing. The film "Let it Be" is not on official DVD, but there are none-too-official DVDs on eBay (and the law says it is okay to buy a bootleg, but not sell one -- which I could never quite comprehend). I am glad that people do listen to me, though I suspect some of them would just as soon clobber me with a shovel rather than wait until I get to my point (which, admittedly, sometimes goes through odd detours -- in this case, the roof of the Apple Records HQ). Be well! Ecoleetage (talk) 01:06, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

My !vote

Notorious Online

I believe the stations myspace is an adequate source for the info provided. All the info I have gathered is off their site. Im sorry if I have caused any inconvienience but im new to wikipedia. Also myspaces have been used in the past to cite sourcesBowmandem (talk) 13:53, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello, new friend! Please don’t apologise – as someone who is new to Misplaced Pages, you are not expected to have a full understanding of all of the Wiki rules and requirements at the start of your editing experience. It takes some time to learn what is considered notable by Wiki standards – trust me, I made lots of mistakes before I got the hang of it! While MySpace is a fine site, citing it as the one and only independent reference for the article is not encouraged, as per WP:RS. Other Wiki articles may include mention of a MySpace page, but only as part of a much larger line-up of external links to established independent information sources. The article on Notorious Online would have a better chance of remaining here if there were independent media sources that confirm the station’s notability as a leader in Net radio -- if BBC or The Guardian or The Sun wrote about it, that would be super (and if it was on Page 3 of The Sun, even better!). If such media coverage exists, please let me know ASAP and we can work together to ensure the article remains. And if there is anything I can do to help make your Misplaced Pages experience more pleasant, just feel free to whistle. Ecoleetage (talk) 14:05, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi I have a new username as I lost my password anyway I have a local newspaper article its just there are a few personal details such as the owners full name and a photo of him. I personally dont think adding it would be appropriate due to it bieng a risk to him due to the article having a photo of him etc.Mind you if its on a newspaper website is it that much of a risk? Bowmandem2 (talk) 14:12, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Okay, my advice is this: save the text of the article offline. If you feel there is a problem with that article you mentioned, do not use it-- or, to talk in rhyme, leave it out when it doubt. If the article gets deleted, you can bring it back later with whatever future media coverage comes up, thus confirming notability. Thanks and be well. Ecoleetage (talk) 14:15, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Smiling about New York Times access

Thanks for the smile. As a print subscriber, I get access to the entire New York Times archive. It's amazing how much of my research for articles comes from the Times, and the ability to see the entire articles has allowed me to thoroughly source so many of the DYK and other articles I've written. Feel free to reach out to me if I can help with this or anything else. Alansohn (talk) 16:37, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey Eco, I just discovered a great way to access the entire NYT archive FOR FREE. Each article has what I call a res code. For example, when you search Hubert Maga on the NYT search, the first nonfree result is http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F20714FD3E551A7A93C3AA1789D95F448685F9&scp=2&sq=Hubert%20Maga&st=cse The F20714FD3E551A7A93C3AA1789D95F448685F9 is the res code. To access the article, you just go to http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=2&res= I cannot even begin to tell you how awesome this is! ~the editorofthewiki ~ 21:16, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Military_history/Assessment/Battle_of_Kostiuchnówka

Perhaps you would like to take a look at this article, which I think is not far from reaching the A-class status? I am looking for a native speaker to help with some copyediting issues in it as well. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 00:33, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Non-admin closure

I've reverted your non-admin closure here. It's not appropriate to close a discussion after only 2 hours, when the nomination is clearly in good faith, and where quite appropriate questions of whether sourcing even exists have been asked and not answered. Speeding keeping is for bad faith nominations. This nomination is clearly a good faith one. Moreover, articles without reliable and independent sources do have a real possibility of failing Deletion policy, for which a proper full discussion should be had, and a full effort to find sources (which, ironically, only the nominator seems to have done, so far) has been made. Uncle G (talk) 03:12, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

The reversion of the NAC was not a good call, in my opinion. No one accused this of being a bad faith nomination, so your repeated mention of faith seems odd. Problems with references can be fixed in editing -- that is not the purpose of AfD. Reverting the NAC only delays the obvious -- consensus is (at the moment) unanimous in favour of keeping the article and the only way it will close as delete will be through an unprecedented rush of delete !votes or a closing admin who ignores consensus. I stand by my decision to close this as per WP:SNOW and look forward to the confirmation of the decision when this discussion is closed. No hard feelings on this, either. :) Ecoleetage (talk) 03:47, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
For the record, the AfD opened at 21:04 on 16 December and was closed as a non-admin closure at 02:52 on 17 December. How did that become two hours? Ecoleetage (talk) 04:12, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
The AfD in question has been closed (9 hours after it was reopened) by admin SoWhy, who stated: "The result was speedy keep. This is a prime example of WP:SNOW." I consider this a vindication of my earlier NAC, and I am glad to see this concluded with all due speed. Ecoleetage (talk) 13:44, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Notes at Misplaced Pages:Requests_for_adminship/Undead_warrior_3#Neutral

Please take a look at my comments. I am sorry to have caused this grief, because I should have known that my comment would have caused a poor reaction. But I still think George Benson (Quaker) was notable, and a plain Google search for a guy who died 150 years ago would be irrelevant. I can't honestly support or oppose this nomination. Bearian (talk) 22:31, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

De Souza

Thakns for the complement! No, I've never been to Benin, just find it's history fascinating (and its Misplaced Pages coverage apalling). I'm trying to at least have C-class articles for all its many rulers, and perhaps more than that. Compare Hubert Maga as it is now to what it was before I worked on it. Mind you, this is just last September and Maga was the first president of Benin! It always disgusts me when people say Misplaced Pages is relatively complete just because it has 2.5 million articles. The sum of human knowledge is much greater than 2.5 million topics, and besides, something like 1 million are stubs or have cleanup tags on them! I appreciate all the DYKs you've created recently - you're shooting for 100, aren't you! ~the editorofthewiki ~ 22:30, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Kips Bay edit

Hey Eco. Regarding your addition to the Landing at Kip's Bay article - well, I fixed the redundancy (three warships) and a little grammatical thing (HMS stands for "his/her majesty's service" and the S isn't for "schooner"). Anyway, my point in posting was that this is in contradiction to the previous cite, in which there are only the two frigates that I had previously noted (Dave McCullough, 1776). What do you think about the discrepancy? Tan | 39 01:03, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

You are aware of what happened when George Washington reunited with Henry Knox following this conflict? Knox was at a home in lower Manhattan and Washington came to visit him late at night. But when Washington arrived at the Knox residence, he discovered the door was locked. So he banged on the door and yelled out: "Knox! Knox!" And the reply from within came: "Who's there?" And the general replied: "George!" And the reply from within came: "George who?" And then general started singing: "George, George, George of the Jungle, friend to you and me..." And over time, "Knox! Knox!" became "Knock! Knock!" You see, you can learn something on Misplaced Pages! Ecoleetage (talk) 02:11, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:AmosAndy.jpg. Uncle G

Your response to Uncle G on ANI might be sincere or it might be sarcastic. I hope it is the former. Uncle G is Good People, he has rescued more crap articles on god subjects than anyone else I know and his understanding of how the project works is very sound. If Uncle G gives you advice, it is probably best to take it in the spirit in which it is offered. Above all, people who insist on being right the whole time do tend to land in a lot of trouble, especially when that make a point of asserting how they were right all along in the face of multiple people telling them that actually they weren't. Guy (Help!) 10:58, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

When I give an expression of thanks and I am wishing someone a Merry Christmas, the only possible agenda I have is to give someone an expression of thanks and the wish of a Merry Christmas. As for the second assertion, the opinion on the issue in question is evenly split among the people who were actually part of the discussion (with an emphasis on the word opinion). Ecoleetage (talk) 13:48, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Guy has plenty of personal experience with insisting that he's right in the face of multiple people disagreeing... but, of course, those who disagree are all a bunch of "trolls" he can ignore. Happy Hanukkah! *Dan T.* (talk) 14:09, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the cheery seasonal note. I enjoyed the exchange on the AfD for Life Mel Honey as well. The article was so much improved over the course of the AfD that I was going to go back and withdraw the AfD but it was already closed by snowball. I believe that disagreements can usually be discussed passionately but civilly. I know I'm more of a deletionist than some editors, particularly in borderline cases. The 100 DYK Medal

The 100 DYK Medal
Ecoleetage (talk · contribs), I am very honoured to award you The 100 DYK Medal for your fantastic contributions to WP:DYK. Your work on articles related to films, biographies, places, and whatever else you can think of has definitely helped Misplaced Pages grow to be a much bigger encyclopedia. Sure, Misplaced Pages isn't nearly complete yet, but Misplaced Pages grows by every single positive edit and article creation. Each time you create a new article, it just adds another puzzle piece to the Misplaced Pages globe. ;-) I'm always interested in the DYKs you write (and I bet a lot of others think that also), and I hope you're not stopping now! Keep it up, and don't forget all the help and knowledge you are giving to Misplaced Pages, and the world. :-) Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. :-)

Consider this my Christmas present to you, Ecoleetage. :-) Merry Christmas, RyanCross @ 21:02, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Isabel Gonzalez

It is a pity, but there are no images of her. Isabel slipped into the "cracks" of history and her actions and its consequences were completely forgotten until I stumbled into the case involving her. Right now, I am waiting for the Goveernment of Puerto Rico to make its transition in January before I make a full move on having her recognized as the "Puerto Rican Rosa Parks". I have direct contact with the new vice-governor who is a friend of mine and he is all for it. Can you imagine a young women who did not know how to speak English, coming to a strange land with a city as big as New York and taking on the U.S. Government? It is story of hard core courage and she deserves tto be recognized not only in Puerto Rico, but in the United States also. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:32, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Morne Diablotins

Heh, I just clicked on Morne Diablotins and BAM! there it was, an awesome picture of a relevant volcano. As is everything you create, it looks great. Mind collaborating toward DYK? ~EDDY ~ 00:13, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Going through news results, it doesn't look like there is too much on the actual national park rather than the volcano. Ah well. Naw, I ain't too interested in race films. Besides, you're much better at them, anyway. I'm currently aiming for Hubert Maga and 2003 Bam earthquake FAs, as well as some coup and African film work, if any of this piques your interest. ~EDDY ~ 00:25, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I've often heard of how corrupt African politics can be. Maga was by no means a saint: he once tried to enslave his own country's youth to boost the economy (which was honestly is pretty bad shape then). The Beninese economy helped drive a coup practically every other year between 1963-1972. Africa is so underrepresented on Misplaced Pages as well as the rest of the world, and if we don't learn our history we may be doomed to repeat it.
On a lighter note, this website contains information on several African filmmakers. Again, the Western media practically rejects African films and rarely shows them. The best way to spread word of this is through Misplaced Pages, and perhaps someday I won't have to travel to South Africa to watch Drum. ~EDDY ~ 00:40, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

When Men Betray

Hey Ecoleetage. I see you're still at it creating great content! I hope you don't mind but I recast the Google book reference. To my mind the book is the reference you used and its full citation is what's important for citation transparency and permanence. The fact that it's available online (at least for now) is a bonus; we can provide the URL in cite book so people can easily check, but its digitizing is subbordinate and isn't the heart of the actual reference.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:35, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Advanced Management Solutions

Thanks for the feedback, Ecoleetage, I guess I am struggling with how to provide facts without it sounding like an adertisement. The fact is there is a wiki entry for "project management software" which contains a list of software which does not include an entry for Advanced Management Solutions and its AMS REALTIME product. I noticed that all the entris in th elist have a link to an article about the relevant company and its products, so I thought I would correct the ommision. If I look at most of the other similar entries (I created th eone for Advanced Management Solutions based on the article for Artemis Software) they do not seem dissimilar to the one I have created. I only created the article because every time I updated the list with an entry, it dissapeared later. I found out that this was becaase there was no article for the list entry to link to.User:Heavy66.

I must admit, that I have found this stressful and I am not sure I can be bothered to correct Misplaced Pages's innacuracy, and whilst I understand that Article A should not exist just because Arcticle B which is pretty similar or worse exists, the process that I have gone through (so far) does not make me a fan of Misplaced Pages. I think there should be a easier way to correct innacuracies in an encyclopedia, and I think an encyclopedia should be accurate.

People new to Misplaced Pages are bound to base their contributions (at least initially) on the style/format/content of existing articles. If they write one similar to an existing one and someone spots that it contravenes a rule and should not be accepted, then if the writer points out that similar articles exist and can argue that these similar articles exist despite contraving a rule, then they should all be tagged for speedy deletion, or at least enter a forum for review and perhaps eventual deletion.

With regards to noteworthiness - well what can I say, I also believe that the content should be noteworthy, but it is hypocritical to allow some unnoteworthy stuff to stay and reject new unnoteworthy stuff in my book. Also, if something is a fact, then I think it should be includable. I am perfectly willing to just have an entry titled Advanced management Solutions with no text content underneath, if that would meet the rules - Advanced Management Solutions does exist therefor it is! As does its software AMS REALTIME.

Now I guess I am arguing a case I cannot possibly win here, as it looks like Misplaced Pages policy is unlikley to change and I am unwilling to continue being a tiny force against an immovable object, but if you ever come up with an easier way of correcting ommisions/innacuracies, please let me know.

Bye for now,

Regards,

Me.User:Heavy66.

Hey, maybe together we can come up with a way for you to win. I see you have a copy of the article online. Let me give it a look and see if I can come up with a winning formula. Ecoleetage (talk) 18:09, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much for writing the stub and the references. That was kind of you.

The reason why I started this venture was that AMS and AMS REALTIME was not present in the List of Project Management Tools http://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_project_management_software

If I look thru this list and click on the links, most of them seem salesy to me.

Thanks again,

Me.User:Heavy66. —Preceding undated comment was added at 12:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC).

Unified Design Framework for Mobile Robot Systems

I started to create this page two days ago. You left some feedback saying that there were not enough references for the work. However, before I had the chance to remedy the situation, the page was deleted. I think this is a little harsh. Now I have to re-write the page and go through the hole process again, hoping that someone won't delete it whilst I attempt to edit it!

Hello! You can get a copy of the deleted article from several admins who provide such a service. I have called on DGG for assistance in the past -- just tell him I sent you. If you do rewrite the article, however, please be certain that the article passes the requirements of WP:RS -- the deleted article only referenced your thesis, which is not acceptable. If you need assistance in writing the article, I will be glad to provide assistance. I sincerely hope this situation is not stressful -- I know what it is like to have material deleted from Misplaced Pages. Be well and Happy 2009! Ecoleetage (talk) 11:21, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Notability not confirmed

Thanks for your note. I'm a little surprised to get this note from you. Unfortunately, CSD#A7 only applies to those articles with no asserting significance, and this is a lower standard than notability. Notability need not be confirmed to save an article form speedy deletion, no matter how much I think it would be justified. We need to change criteria for A7 to "no assertion of notability." Hoax is not a speedy deletion criterion, much as thing it should be. <sigh> Till then, prod will have to do.

I realize some admins tend to WP:IAR speedily delete some article. There is a feeling among some that this leads to hasty deletion of articles that should be expanded. Certainly, I have seen it occur where an article about a clearly notable subject was tagged for speedy deletion. We all make mistakes. I share your feelings about the article in question, however there is an assertion of significance, and we could be wrong about it being certainly not notable. We lose nothing in waiting for the creator to come up with something. Hence the PROD.

On the other hand, introducing false info into Misplaced Pages can be construed as vandalism. (I did not try to find the video's, did not want to risk malware or a virus.) As you have verified that the info is false, I will go ahead and delete that way. This is the first time someone has appealed me not deleting the article. Usually, it goes the other way. Cheers, and happy editing. Dlohcierekim 20:37, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Done. And want to commend you for taking the time to perform due diligence. If everyone took the time and made the effort to check things out, we'd have fewer hasty deletion problems. Cheers again. Dlohcierekim 20:44, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Whoa! Hello, mama, and welcome to Eco’s Place. Where have I been all of your life? :) Ecoleetage (talk) 18:12, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks!

I felt that the Sebastian Bonnet deletion was a bit unfair, especially with someone saying that "reliable sources could be found." Thanks for doing the right thing, rather than point fingers of blame at others for not doing anything.Ryoung122 18:47, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I must say that I never heard of Mr. Bonnet prior to researching the article. Fascinating way to make a living, all things considered. :) Ecoleetage (talk) 18:58, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the Barnstar

Though I don't really deserve it, it's certainly gratifying and I'll keep it on my talk page. Jlg4104 (talk) 15:03, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

You're RFA

I'd like to wish you luck in your RFA which I supported. I do have some advice though...

1. Try to let this one run it's course even if the "opposse" gets a little nasty. I looked at the last one which you withdrew and it looked like it had an outside chance of passing if left open.

2. Stop responding to opposes no matter how ridiculous they are. Doing so has derailed RFAs in the past. Allow others to rebut them or the closing crat to give them the weight they deserve.

Once again, good luck. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 16:55, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

RFA

I would like 2 sheep, 3 pigs and 5 chickens. Oh, sorry, wrong queue! :D Anyway best of luck with it. I hope you are an admin in this one! Andy (talk) 17:34, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
