John James McAliskey (born 2 September 1984, Huddersfield) is a professional footballer who is currently without a club after being released by Coca-Cola League Two side Mansfield Town.
Career
He first played for Huddersfield Town during the 2003–04 season where he was instantly compared by fans to Jon Stead, whom had recently left for Premier League side, Blackburn Rovers. The comparisons were justified by his looks, hair, height and early goalscoring prowess, which helped Town win promotion that season.
Since then it has been tough going for him and he was sent on loan to Torquay United during the 2005–06 season, due to lack of match action. He has again failed to make an impression this season, and was sent out on loan to Wrexham.
Incidentally, he has played for the Irish Under-21 side, because his grandparents were originally from Ireland.
He scored his first goal for Town since 28 December 2004, against Port Vale, with a 30-yard cracker, 12 seconds after half-time on 31 March 2007. That made the score 2–1 to Town, the game finished 2–2, thanks to ex-Town player Akpo Sodje's equaliser.
On 9 May 2007, he was released by the Terriers signing for Mansfield Town on 7 June on a one-year deal. After just 16 League games he was released by Mansfield on 27 March 2008.
