It is commercial hub for goods to and from Bosaaso, Garoowe, Las anod , Galcaio, Wardheer, Burco the surrounding area and Ethiopia. The city is rich with live stock it also has modern communication system such as cell phones, land line phone, as well as internet services. The city has a new hospital along with modern hotels. People in Buuhodle are ethnically Dhulbahante Daarood, The dhulbahante tribes who reside Buuhoodle are Mainly Ahmed Graad, such as Reer Hager, Ali gari, Waise Adan, Samakaab Ahmed, Igal Naaleeye, Araale Mahad, and Farah Adan Buhood., Other tribes who reside are Barkad, Khaalid, Yaxye, Mohamed Muuse, Hayaag, and other dhulbahte tribes.
The town and the area around it are disputed by the Puntland and Somaliland autonomous regions of Somalia.
