Career
In the beginning
Lashley attended Missouri Valley College and won 3 national wrestling championships (1996-98) and placed 4th in 1995. During 1997 and 1998 Lashley was the NAIA National Wrestling champion weighing in at 177 pounds. Lashley continued his amateur wrestling while being part of the United States Army.
World Wrestling Entertainment
In November 2003, Lashley signed a developmental contract with WWE being assigned to its farm federation, Ohio Valley Wrestling. During his time in OVW Lashley was known as Blaster Lashley and would go on to wrestle as part of the Bolin Service with Mike Mondo, and Ken Doane. In mid 2005 Lashley appeared in over 4 live events, wrestling in dark matches for both the RAW and SmackDown! brands.
On September 23, 2005 Lashley made his WWE television debut on SmackDown!, under the name Bobby Lashley. Lashley was introduced as a three-time National Amateur Wrestling Champion, four-time All-American, a two-time Armed Forces Champion and a 2002 Silver Medalist at the Military World Championship, and successfully defeated Simon Dean, utilizing a unique array of power moves. Lashley would go on to make his first WWE PPV appearance at the October 9th No Mercy 2005 event against Simon Dean, in which he would pick up his first pay per view win over the fitness nut, Simon Dean. The following week, Lashley would face a higher caliber somewhat of a wrestler then Dean, that being the pipsqueak, Nunzio, this match being that of a buildup from the previous Velocity show. Not only does Lashley squash Nunzio like a grape, but he also fends off Nunzio's muscle/tag partner, Vito. This feud continues to build into the week after on Smackdown! where now Lashley fights the opposite man, that being Vito, afterwards making an example of Nunzio in the process. Lashley now finds himself in a two-on-one confrontation for the Smackdown! episode of 11/04/05 where the odds are obviously against him. However, on Velocity he managed to overcome the FBI (Nunzio & Vito) can he do it once more come Smackdown!?
