Astrud Gilberto (b. March 30, 1940) is a Brazillian-born singer best known for her samba and bossa nova music.

Biography

Astrud Gilberto was catapulted to fame in the mid 1960s (see 1960s in music) with the success of the song "The Girl From Ipanema", which she performed on the album Getz/Gilberto with Stan Getz, her husband João Gilberto, and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

The Gilbertos later divorced, and Astrud continues to enjoy a career of modest success, but her later recordings never matched The Girl From Ipanema's amazing popularity.
