They live mostly in central and southern Somalia. It is largely agreed that controll Mogadishu and has the largest business in Somalia. The first leaders who lead the fighting for Somalia independent and the first President Aden Abdullahi Osman 1960 -1967 was Hawiye. Abdiqasim Salad the prior President was also Hawiye.
