Revision as of 18:40, 22 November 2005 by Gyrofrog (talk | contribs) (restore citations; info to the contrary should cite sources. copyedit.)(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)The Hawiye tribe is one of the largest Somali clans. They live mostly in central and southern Somalia. It is largely agreed that they descended from the Somaal, ancestors of the Somalis. Some sources, including Human Rights Watch, indicate that Hawiye is the largest Somali clan. Conversely, the Canadian Report of the Somalia Commission of Inquiry shows Darod as being the largest.
Abdullahi Isse, the chairman of the Somali Youth League (which fought for Somalian Independence), and the first president of Somalia, Aden Abdullahi Osman, were both members of the Hawiye clan.
