Various scientific theories (such as the Big Bang, Plasma cosmology, and the Quasi-steady state) and prominent non-scientific theories (such as creationist cosmologies) describe certian events that have occurred and will occur in the Universe.
Beginnings
- No Beginning - Steady state theory postulates that the universe has always existed. A deriviative of the steady state, the quasi-steady state theory, postulates a lot of little "big bangs" occurring over time. Plasma cosmology, also, postulates that the universe has always existed.
- 13.7 Billion Years ago - The Standard Model of particle physics predicts the Big Bang (an "expansion" of space and matter) as the origin of the universe. Interpretation of the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe's cosmic microwave background radiation survey has refined the estimate of this date.
- 3893102 BC - Beginning of the current mahayuga, according to Hindu cosmology.
- 2165102 BC - End of the Crita Yuga, according to Hindu cosmology.
- 867102 BC - End of the Treta Yuga, according to Hindu cosmology.
- 6,000 to 10,000 years ago - Some religious cosmologies predict the origin of the universe by a creator.
- 3102 BC - End of the Dwapara Yuga, according to Hindu cosmology.
- 2348 BC - The Flood, as calculated by Archbishop Ussher.
- 428899 AD - End of the Kali Yuga, according to Hindu cosmology.
