The Hawiye tribe is the largest Somali clan. They live mostly in central and southern Somaliaand smaller group in north,Kenya and Ethiopia. It is largely agreed that all descended from the Irir Samaale. Some sources, including Human Rights Watch, indicate that Hawiye is the largest Somali clan. Conversely.

The chairman of the Somali Youth League Abdullahi Isse (which fighted for Somalia Independence), and the first president of Somalia, Aden Abdullahi Osmanand Mohammed Farah Aidid, were both members of the Hawiye clan.
