FTW (or 4TW) is an initialism meaning for the win. Both are commonly used by gamers.
Much like w00t, the acronym began as a gaming term. It usually indcated something that helped in the goal of winning and therefore was "for the win". These days it is more broadly used as meaning a beneficial thing. TTW is also used as a past particple, meaning "takes the win".
As with many other instances of Internet slang, the phrase itself predates the Internet. For the win may be derived from the popular gameshow Hollywood Squares, in which contestants attempt to complete the tic-tac-toe of celebrities, saying, "I'll take for the win."
