Tina is noted for her overpowering stage presence -- long legs, big hair, and emotional voice. In addition to singing, she has appeared in several movies, notably as the Gypsy Acid Queen in the film of The Who's Tommy and in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome with Mel Gibson.
Tina Turner was discovered and named by Ike Turner to whom she was married. Tina finalized her divorce in 1978 after 18 years of marriage, accusing Turner of abuse and drug addiction in her autobiography I, Tina, which was made into the film What's Love Got to Do with It. Turner, a noted pioneer of rock and roll, has also written an autobiography.
Tina started a solo career in 1984] with the album Private Dancer.
Ike and Tina Turner also recorded a mythical single "River Deep, Mountain High" with Phil Spector.
