The game was developed by Tribal DDB, Hasbro's digital agency, with support from Google. The game was launched on September 9, 2009 and will continue until January 31, 2010. The game had large server issues on the launch day due to the huge number of people trying to create accounts at any one time. This resulted in the site going down for many people, and being temporarily available for others.
Overview
Monopoly City Streets players start out with $3 million virtual dollars and are able purchase real world properties including hotels, houses, football stadiums, castles and skyscrapers. Players are paid rent each day, from $50,000 for a house to $100 million for a skyscraper.
Prices of real estate depend on the location of the street and the length of the street, due to longer streets being able to house more buildings, thus having a greater potential value than a street that can only house a few buildings.
Players can buy, sell, and negotiate prices between other players. They are randomly given Monopoly Chance Cards to sabotage other players by building Hazards on their streets. Bonus buildings, such as parks, schools, water towers and wind farms can be built. Players receive these buildings through the chance cards.
