Liam Ball, was an Irish Olympic swimmer at the 1972 Munich games. A past pupil of St. Columb's College in Derry, Ball presented the green Irish Olympian blazer he donned for the games to his former school as a gift.

A local hero, Ball appears in a mural on Creggan's Central Drive. The annual Liam Ball International Triathlon, hosted by Templemore Sports Complex in Derry, is also named after Ball.
