Cherry Hill Mall, New Jersey is a census-designated place and unincorporated area located within Cherry Hill Township, in Camden County, New Jersey. As of the United States 2000 Census, the section had a total population of 13,238.

Geography

Cherry Hill Mall, New Jersey is located at 39°56'26" North, 75°0'44" West (39.940445, -75.012196)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.6 km² (3.7 mi²). 9.6 km² (3.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 13,238 people, 5,062 households, and 3,649 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,381.4/km² (3,581.8/mi²). There are 5,219 housing units at an average density of 544.6/km² (1,412.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 83.15% White, 5.05% African American, 0.05% Native American, 9.03% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.10% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 3.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,062 households out of which 29.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% are non-families. 24.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.05.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $61,620, and the median income for a family is $69,441. Males have a median income of $51,118 versus $34,355 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $28,892. 4.8% of the population and 3.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.9% of those under the age of 18 and 3.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

History

The Cherry Hill Mall opened in 1961, and was the first mall to open in the East. The first indoor shopping mall in North America opened in 1956 in Minnasota.
