Bellamy had a stellar 14 year career in the NBA but is mostly known for his time with the Baltimore Bullets. Bellamy was a member of the 1960 US Olympic team featuring Jerry West, Oscar Robertson and Jerry Lucas.
Bellamy is a prominent member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans.
