Sorry for the very late welcome
Hi, Swarm, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Misplaced Pages editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you. And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 10:58, 24 August 2009 (UTC) |

Your username
Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. I noticed that your username, Abusing, may not meet Misplaced Pages's username policy because connotations of abuse may be disturbing to some. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. Draftydoor (talk) 13:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- What is the purpose of this message? Is it a warning that I may be punished, a vague concern that my username may violate policy, or a direct request that I change my username for the given reason? I understand it's a template, but it relies on reasoning to support it, and in this case the reasoning seems pretty vague...
- Okay, I don't think my username violates the username policy because it is not offensive. I do not feel it suggests any negative connotation of the word "abusing", and no one has ever suggested such to me. Furthermore, no user has ever suggested to me in any way that my username is, or can be offensive, and I do not believe it has ever, directly or indirectly, interfered with any action or discussion I have ever taken part in on Misplaced Pages, making it apparent to me, that as of right now, it is not taken offensively by Wikipedians, as it is simply a word stated in a completely neutral and meaningless sense. With respect, the reasoning given (that it may be considered offensive to some users based on "connotations") seems like a stretch, and I have never seen any evidence that suggests that may be true.
However, to be clear, I'm not trying to be difficult -- I simply have never heard this from anyone before. If you or any other user genuinely requested that I file for a change of username because they personally find it disturbing or offensive, I would not hesitate to do so. If you find my username offensive, please say so. However, a base template with only vague speculation to support it does not convince me that it is offensive, and based on my argument above, gives me no reason to change the username.--Abusing (talk) 04:55, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
- On second thought, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to file for a name change. Personally, I stand by what I said, but if I'm getting templated I guess I should take that as a sign.--Abusing (talk) 02:04, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Speedy Deletion of Mount Allison Students' Union
Hi, I was just wondering how the Mount Allison Students' Union was any different from any other student union. I undestand that Mount Allison is a small university, but it is quite a notable one no less.
