Gary Bettman (born on 2nd June 1952) is a former an NBA executive, Bettman took office as the first commissioner of the National Hockey League on 1st February 1993. He was brought in to try to give the NHL some of the same success the NBA has had in the United States. His policies have included the aggressive expansion of the league in the southern and western United States and calls for a salary cap that have been strongly opposed by the NHL Players Association.
