In North American usage, a septillion is a large number equal to a 1 with 24 0's, namely:

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 This number is just a little less than twice as large as Avogadro's number, which is a mole in chemistry.

It is a thousand sextillion and one thousandth of an octillion.

In European, it is equal to a 1 with 42 0's, namely:

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

It is a million sextillion and one millionth of an octillion, or, a thousand sextilliard and one thousands of a septilliard.
