Everman joined Nirvana in 1989, and is credited as being the second guitarist on the Nirvana album Bleach, but did not actually play on any of the songs. The credit was admitted by Kurt Cobain to be as a token of thanks for paying for the recording of the album, a fee of $606.17 and a sandwich, for which Everman was never repaid (see 3rd paragraph). He did, however, tour with Nirvana as a second guitarist to promote Bleach.
As of 2004, both songs from a two-song Nirvana session featuring Everman have been officially released. "Do You Love Me?" (a KISS cover released on a tribute album) and "Dive" (released on Nirvana's With the Lights Out box set) were recorded at The Evergreen State College's 24-track studio in June of 1989.
Stresses from touring in a small van and what the band saw as Everman's "rocker-dude" tendencies alienated him from his Nirvana band-mates, and forced Kurt Cobain to kick him out of the band. Cobain also refused to pay Everman back for the recording sessions for Bleach, citing "mental anguish".
He left Nirvana after July 1989, and replaced Hiro Yamamoto as the bassist for Soundgarden in 1990. In April of that year, he played on the band's cover of Beatles' "Come Together", which was released as a single. He also appears in Soundgarden's Louder Than Live home video. He quickly left the band in the same year, and has played guitar in Mind Funk and a few other bands.
In September 1994 he left Mind Funk to join the Army 2nd Ranger Battalion and the Special Forces.
