He is better known as Richie Ramone. He joined the Ramones in 1983 after second drummer Marky Ramone was forced to leave the band due to his alcoholism. Richie left the band in 1987 because he thought that he wasn't getting paid enough for his work.
On the documentary "The End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones", Richie stated that he was not considered a full band member and did not receive money from merchandise sales. He was temporarily replaced by Clem Burke ("Elvis Ramone") for two gigs in Trenton, New Jersey, before the band asked Marky to return (which he did).
Richie is featured on the albums Too Tough to Die, Animal Boy and Halfway to Sanity and played over 500 live shows with the band. He also wrote the classic Ramones song, "Somebody Put Something In My Drink", after an event in which his drink was allegedly spiked with acid at a bar.
Richie attended former bandmate Joey Ramone's funeral when he passed away on April 15, 2001 from cancer, even though he was told several times not to go. He had been estranged from the other Ramones for years before this. He is also featured in the Ramones documentary End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones wearing a tie and collared shirt, a style completely unknown to the core members of the Ramones.
