Dubrava je sastavni dio grada Zagreba postala 1949. godine, kada je gradska međa pomaknuta s potoka Štefanovca na potok Trnavu. U srednjem vijeku Dubrava je bila crkveni posjed obrastao šikarom i šumarcima, a upravo je zbog toga cijelo područje dobilo ime Dubrava. Rudo Hribar je 1931. otkupio zemljište u Gornjoj Dubravi od Kaptola, a Vladimir Janeković 1935. obavio je parcelaciju , pa se taj prostor i danas naziva Janekovićevom parcelacijom. U Donjoj Dubravi nije bilo parcelacije, pa je njen izgled drukčiji.
