William Juliano Amamoo, (born 4 April 1985 in Accra) is a Ghanaian footballer currently with Hapoel Petah Tikva.

Career

He began his career in 1998 with the famous Ghanaian club Liberty Professionals F.C. and qualified the team from Division One to the Premiership. He left to Dawu Youngsters in 2000, and later joined Ghana Premier League club Heart of Lions in 2002. In May 2003 he moved to Romanian Liga I team FC Farul Constanţa.

Amamoo played 13 games with Constanţa and moved to Swedish team Syrianska FC, he is a celebrated star and the best goal keeper of the season. This was the big break in his career and he moved to FC Sopron in January 2006, he helped his team to escape the relegation, he distinquised himself as the last hope of the team and had the best saves for the team in the entire season in 2006, after 4 months moved in November 2006 to Swedish team Vasalunds IF, after 10 games in Sweden moved back to Romania and signs in September 2006 a loan contract by FC Sacele, before in December 2007 transferd to CF Liberty Salonta on loan.. He signed than in November 2008 with FC Telecom Egypt and would returned to Sweden in February 2009. The Black Stars goalkeeper signed than for Swedish side Djurgardens IF after terminating his contract with Telecom Egypt in January 2009, after a short stint cancelled his contract and resigned with Vasalunds IF. Amamoo joined and signed in April 2010 a three year contract deal with Hapoel Petah Tikva.

Amamoo is very agile consistent, sharp reflexes,flexible, confidence and experinced, is the current Ghana best goalkeeper in Europe.

Honours

The goalkeeper was awarded best goal keeper of the season after playing 18 games without conceding any goal, in the 2004 league season in Romanian Liga I.

2005 was awarded as the best goalkeeper in the Swedish league after helping in the promotion of his club Syrianska FC from Division 2 to Division 1, he was awarded Gold Medal in the Swedish Division 1 knockout competition with Syrianska FC.

2006 was awarded as the best goalkeeper in the Hungarian National Championship I after finishing at the 4th position with his club and was also awarded best Save of the season.

International career

He represented the Ghana U-17 at 1999 FIFA U-17 World Championship in New Zealand and played with the team by African Youth U-17 Championship in Guinea 1999.

With the Ghana national under-20 football team played at 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina, African Youth Championship in Ethiopia and 4 Nations Cup in Benin in 2001 and played Under 23 nationalteam 2002 at 4 Nations Cup in South Africa.

He received first cap for the Blacks Stars at the friendly match against Australia on May 23, 2008.

Personal life

He requested the Romanian passport, the wish was to play for the Romania national football team, the claim was 2004 rejected. He got married to his Swedish fiance, Susana in Accra recently and that can facilitate his quest for a Swedish passport.

Background

The Black Stars goalkeeper, has pledged his continuous support for the family of Ibrahim Dossey, who died on 9 December 2008. The Egypt-based goalie had launched a campaign to raise funds to save Dossey’s life until his death.

Amamoo has promised to fund the education of Dossey’s daughter,who was unhurt in the serious car accident that resulted in his death.

“ I have decided to cater for his daughter’s education because if you know Ibrahim,you will know that he was close to her,” Amamoo told.

“ I think so far as I live for long, I will do things that will make her happy in life. I also intend to invite her to Sweden for holidays and all that.

“ You know about my foundation,I’m thinking of continuing in memory of him and my late father.”

Amamoo could not attend the burial because of his club commitments.
