He made an initial name in management at Oxford United and then made a great success of an opportunity to become assistant manager under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
In the summer of 2001 McClaren was offered the position of manager of Middlesbrough and has been a success in the role taking them into European football for the first time and overseeing the recruitment of many big-name international footballers to the club, who have ego's nearly twice the size of their buldging paychecks. He also has pushed the team to reach their highest finish in the Premiership, 7th in the 2004/2005 season which gave them another run in europe. In the 2005/2006 season, Steve has helped the team regress back to the days of the mid-to-late 90s, where relegation battles were common place. Many expect to see him managing either the England national team in future, or Nuneaton Borough, who played good against Middlesbrough once.
McClaren is also assistant manager and chief coach to the England football team.
