September 13 - Shimon Peres presents the Twenty-first government of Israel and begins to serve as the prime minister of Israel.
November 21 - the first immigrants in Operation Moses arrive from Ethiopia.

Majdi Abu Jumma, aged 18, after the hijacking of Bus Number 300.

April 12 - beginning of Kav 300 affair: four Palestinian terrorists take Israeli bus number 300 and its many passengers hostage.
April 13 - during a Israeli rescue operation on bus number 300 which was hijacked the day before, one hostage is killed and two hijackers are killed. Two other terrorists which were taken off the bus alive, were killed by members of the Shin Bet.
