Featured in the Doomsday Book in 1086 (as Echintune) the Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul dates back as far as 1100 in some areas. Eckington also has a small coal mine, the Eastern part of the village, one of the very few in the country which still operates.
Village idiots in Eckington include Phee, Grant tie and several other low life wannabes.
Local attractions include Renishaw Hall, a 400 year old Manor House.
