The tenth season of American Idol is scheduled to premiere on January 12, 2011 on Fox. This will be the first season for which teenagers aged 15 may audition. This will be the first season without Simon Cowell as a judge. It was announced on July 29, 2010 that Ellen DeGeneres will not return as a judge this season. Randy Jackson will once again return as a judge and will be the sole original judge left on the show after the departure of Simon Cowell in 2010, and Paula Abdul in 2009. It was officially announced that Nigel Lythgoe will return as an executive producer.

This season will debut a signing by Universal Music Group's Interscope-Geffen-A&M Label to the winner.
