Goodbye and resignation

I am retiring because I have a lot to work on in real life. Due to this I must also resign from my position as co-coordinator. I understand if you're frustrated; we've already had one user leave. But I just want to let you know, retiring from Misplaced Pages is one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I've been thinking about retiring since the beginning of this month, in fact. I might return next summer, but I might not. Until that date, goodbye. The Raptor /My mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 13:41, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Wikify Drive

Since you signed up for the September 2010 GOCE event, I wanted to invite you to participate in a similar event: the September 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. In case you didn't know, "Wikification" is the process of formatting articles using Wiki markup (as opposed to plain text or HTML) and adding internal links to material. Barnstars will be awarded to participating editors. Thanks!

List of BC Lions head coaches

Just a tiny little big thank you for copy-editing this article. Without you copy-editors, some articles may not have reached its potential for featured content status. :D --K. Annoyomous (talk) 05:55, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Alvin C. York article

Thank you for your recent work on the Alvin C. York entry. You greatly improved the article and the editing atmosphere developing around it. Wilson44691 (talk) 21:04, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Glad to help. Did you see the cool map I found? Very enlightening. I have requested "pending changes protection" and have added the article to my watch list. Regards, --Diannaa 21:08, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
That map is great. It makes the issues even more interesting. I was at the site just two weeks ago. Wish I had the map then! Wilson44691 (talk) 21:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes the map is interesting, but it argues on behalf of one side of the location dispute. The other side would say the map is a lie. Thanks for asking for "pending changes protection." Even with that in place, I think someone needs to figure out what to say about the location dispute and at what length. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 21:29, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

I think there is enough material there for another article. The present article is about York, and not about the dispute, so the existing paragraph might be adequate. Further discussion should take place on the talk page of the article, not here. People interested will not know to look here. --Diannaa 21:33, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

GOCE drive has begun

Hello, I just wanted to take a moment and announce that the September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive has started, and will run for a month. Thanks for signing up. There's a special prize for most edits on the first day, in case you've got high ambitions. --Diannaa 02:36, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Delivery Successful

Hello, this is an automated message to inform you that your message delivery request (GOCE drive has begun) was completed successfully. Happy editing!

Delivered by MessageDeliveryBot at 03:26, 1 September 2010 (UTC).

The bot malfunctioned a bit at the start with indenting. I reverted the changes it made and then ran it again with the malfunction fixed. Also, a couple of users were in the list more than once, so they got the message several times. For future runs I've added a bit of code that will remove duplicates, so even if the list contains some, the bot won't deliver more than once. Apologies for the inconvenience. - EdoDodo 03:31, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much for sending out the messages. I have sorted my list alphabetically and located the duplicate name (there was only one). Regards, --Diannaa 03:52, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

GOCE question

One question here, may seem silly, but I dont understand how to list an article as complete and then have it removed from the list? Do i manually remove it from the list of some other way to do it? (this is my first month)(Lihaas (talk) 05:54, 1 September 2010 (UTC)).

To get the article off the list you need to remove the {{copy edit}} tag from the article. It is usually at the top of the page and looks like this: {{Copyedit|date=November 2008}} Just delete that from the article and the article will automatically be removed from the copy edit backlog list.
The tag may be included in a "multiple issues" group of tags. That would also be at the top of the page, and could look something like this:
{{multiple issues|article=y|cleanup=November 2008|copyedit=November 2008|npov=November 2008|primarysources=November 2008|refimprove=November 2008|verylong=November 2008}}
In that case you should find and remove the tags for the issues you were able to resolve. This again will remove the article from the appropriate categories and their associated lists. Hope this explains everything adequately. If not let me know. Thank you for your interest in participating in this project! Regards, --Diannaa 06:08, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

New MDB Feature

Hello! I have just added a new feature to MessageDeliveryBot. It is now possible to have the message delivered on behalf of a WikiProject instead of a specific user. The user who requested the delivery will still be visible in a comment, as well as in the welcome message given to a user if the bot is creating his talk page, however, the bot's edit summary and signature will use the WikiProjects name. To use this new feature, fill in the optional 'WikiProject Name' field when making a request (leave out the Misplaced Pages: namespace prefix). If this field is left blank, then your username will be used to sign requests, as the bot previously did. Happy editing!

Kesha

Hello, thank you very much for conducting a copy edit for me. Other then that is there anything else that you see wrong with the article? - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 22:29, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

As far as I can tell the rest of the article looks OK. I think the only stumbling block to FA was the prose. --Diannaa 22:43, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Family Guy (season 8)

Cookies for you!

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me out by copyediting this article. I assume you've never seen any of these episodes, or at least a majority of them, and I believe it would be more beneficial to have someone who has never seen them cleanup some of the unneccessary details in the episode list. I'd really appreciate it if you would be willing to look over the article, as I hope to bring it to FLC in the near future. Thanks. Gage (talk) 14:08, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

No, I did not see any of the episodes. We do get this TV show but I don't watch it. I can do the copy edits in a few days once I complete other commitments. --Diannaa 17:18, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I also contacted User:HJ Mitchell about copyediting the article. If you can use Family Guy (season 5) as somewhat of a guide, as that is what I attempted to model the article after, that would be the most beneficial thing to do. Do try to keep the plot lengths about the same length as the fifth season article, as well. I'll try to monitor the article, and make any changes if something sifgnificant is accidentally cut. Gage (talk) 19:18, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
It looks like User:HJ Mitchell is able to start right away so I will carry on with my other articles and check in a few days to see if my asistance is still required. Regards, --Diannaa 19:22, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Any chance you could take a look at the article now? It's been several weeks now since I contacted HJ Mitchell, and he's only been able to copyedit the article's lead. I'd appreciate it if you could give the article a thorough look over. Gage (talk) 00:01, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
We seem to be short of copy editors right now! I will try to get something done on it before I leave on my trip on Sunday. You will owe me some cookies, I be thinking. --Diannaa 00:40, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much! The sooner you can take a look, the better. And I'll definitely try to find you some cookies. Gage (talk) 00:57, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Please don't forget about the article. Just wanted to remind you, before you leave on your trip, as I'd really like to get the article to FLC very soon. Gage (talk) 21:57, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Also, I got you some cookies! Gage (talk) 22:02, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
I won't forget. I am trying to tidy up the requests page as no one else seems to be drawing from that list right now. I will try to start tonight if I am not too tired after finishing FC Barcelona. Thanks for the cookies. Yummy :)) --Diannaa 02:00, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Hey, just wanted to check whether or not you have completely finished copyediting the article. I went through the list, and corrected a few minor details, but overall I am very impressed by your copyedit. Thank you for helping me out. Gage (talk) 18:33, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for checking for factual errors. I think the job was quite thorough though there were only a few passes, so I will be stopping there. Please let me know if your FA reviewers feel more is needed. Regards, --Diannaa 18:38, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Hey. I have a feeling that you've done this before but can you try to go over this article and check the comma usage in it. (remove ones where they are not needed and add them where they are) This was brought up in an FAC for the article. Thanks :)--White Shadows 21:24, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

I have gone over it and made some changes. Hopefully it is what they are looking for, as there do not seem to be very many copy editors available right now. By the way I will be away from Sunday the 5th through Monday the 13th of September. Regards, --Diannaa 01:43, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Yet another GOCE drive question

Hi! I have signed up for the drive but am wondering which articles would be appropriate for me to edit. I've come across some that have the copy editing tag removed but which seem to still need work. I don't want to step on anyone's toes. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.MindfulJen (talk) 00:24, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

I understand what you are saying. Different people will have different levels of skill for this task. Some will do a thorough professional job and others will miss even the most basic errors such as spelling or grammar errors. I think any that are seriously bad could be re-tagged. You could do this without hurting anyone's feelings by simply adding a new currently dated copy edit tag. However if you feel there are competence issues with specific editors and it shoud be reported, that is an option too. Hope this helps. --Diannaa 00:32, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you!

Copy Editor's Barnstar
I award you this Copy Editor's Barnstar for insisting on clear, comprehensible, and grammatically correct articles. Dianna, I want to thank so much for your copyedits to Saw VI. I have read this article up and down for months and thought it was as good as it could get. I feel a lot more confident in going through my first FA because of your improvement of the article. Thanks again.Mike Allen 02:16, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for the barnstar! My apologies again that you had such a long wait for your edit. --Diannaa 02:28, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi

Since I have no work or anything, I thought I'd stop by and say a quick hello. I probably won't be able to do this again for a while, because school is taking up more and more of my time. In fact, it's lucky I could even say hi today. How are you? The Utahraptor's sock (talk) 21:27, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi! Hope school is going well. I have been busy trying to get the Requests list caught up before my vacation. There were several that people want to nominate for FA but no one grabbed them. I ended up picking up a Chicago Manual of Style so I can help get stuff to FA. There is more to the use of commas than you ever dreamed possible. I am leaving on my trip tomorrow and will not be back till the 13th. --Diannaa 21:52, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Alek Popov

Do you call this copy editing? Im not sure but it seems to me like a little bit of manipulating article's information (when not concerning exactly the verbs) ;) --Aleksd (talk) 22:07, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

What you did goes a bit beyond copy editing. You added material and found sources for it, which is a disfferent task. Copy editing means we check the grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation. The work you did was great. Please have a look at the article now and see some additional changes that I made. Thank you for your question, and happy editing! --Diannaa 22:32, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Copy edit request

Hi how you doing ? Just dropping a line in connection with a FLC Misplaced Pages:Featured list candidates/List of Commando raids on the Atlantic wall/archive1 one reviewer has suggested a copy edit is required and as you have done so well for me in the past I was hoping you could look it over. As its a list there is not much prose. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 18:55, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Milhist coordinator?

The military history wikiproject will soon open the September 2010 coordinator elections to determine who among us will serve on the X Tranche, the coordinator tranche beginning 28 September of this month. The current coordinators have offered up the names of a limited number of editors who we believe would make good coordinators, and your name was included in the list. Therefore, I am leaving this message on behalf of the current milhist coordinators to encourage you to run for the position of coordinator. If you have any questions or comments about the position you are welcome to ask any members of the current coordinator tranche, we would be happy to answer your questions. Note that while this message is being left to encourage you to run for the position you are under no obligation to do so, and if you decide not to run this decision will not be held against you now or at any point in the future.

Here here! (Bangs cutlery on table) - Dank (push to talk) 16:26, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Just a poke, I really hope you'll run. I suggested you as a possible candidate because of your excellent work around the wiki, and I think your input would be greatly beneficial to discussions on the coordinator's talk page. You have 22 hours to enter your name here (sorry for the short notice). Kind regards, Ed  03:12, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your words of support. I will definitely keep this in mind for next year. --Diannaa 01:42, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

GOCE newsletter

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Participation report — We have 71 participants in the September drive. 95 people signed up for the July drive, and in May we had 36.

Progress report — We have been making solid progress in eliminating the 2008 articles from the backlog so far. If we continue to focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Overall volumes are lower than expected though, with nearly a thousand articles yet to be done if we are to meet our overall target. If you have not yet participated in the drive, we recommend you do so. If each person who signed up edits one article per day from now till the end of the month we can eliminate another 1,065 articles from the backlog. All contributions are appreciated.

Announcement: credit for 10k+ articles — Participants editing a 10k word article may claim credit for two 5k+ articles on the leaderboard. Those that edit a 15k word article may claim credit for three. Regardless, the article is still counted as a single article in the tallies.

Reminder — Articles from the Requests page can be included in your tally, even if they do not have a copy edit tag. This is a great place to go if you are interested in finding a higher quality article to work on.

Hi Diannaa - I am working on a sandbox "upgrade" to the GOCEreviewed template because I would like it to express the user and date of the review similar to the GOCE template. Swapping articles

I've been doing a lot of the copyediting for A-class and FAC WP:SHIPS articles, but there have been several requests for a greater variety of reviewers and copyeditors before and at FAC. I'd like to offer to help copyedit any article of your choice, in exchange for your help copyediting any article at our A-class review page in preparation for FAC. You'd be great. Thanks. - Dank (push to talk) 04:36, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

OK, it's a deal. You can select an article from the requests page, which is getting a little backlogged. Perhaps History of FC Barcelona? Or whichever one you prefer. I will look at SMS Deutschland (1904). Regards, --Diannaa 04:50, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

No, that's great, Sturm's in the last round of the Wikicup and is thankful for any help he can get. - Dank (push to talk) 14:46, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Watchlist

Apologies if you already know this, but from your post at the copyediting drive talk page I thought you might not.

If you click My preferences and then Recent changes, you'll see a checkbox called "Enhanced recent changes (requires JavaScript)". If you check that, your watchlist will take on a condensed format with all changes to one page on a single expandable line. That way popular pages won't dominate your watchlist. Why this is under Recent changes and not Watchlist, I have no idea...

Cheers,

Adrian J. Hunter 13:44, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

No, I did not know this, and it sounds like a terrific solution to the problem. Thanks for the tip! --Diannaa 14:36, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Oh yes, that is mucho better. --Diannaa 14:47, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Your unnecessary (and inaccurate) message to me and your unwarranted revert

I'm not sure why you felt the need to write me that stuff, Dianna, as it's just the OPPOSITE. The other person in question is who is acting against WP policy reverted a MODIFICATION that I did. Which was not really warranted. So I simply undid it. ONE TIME.

where is the 'edit warring' by me, simply because I undid something once? How is Martynas not "edit warring" by reverting a good-faith and more neutral-sounding edit? (as you are doing now too) Explain that, please.

I see that you reverted it back to his blatant POV, which I'm puzzled as to why.

Why are you being a MEAT PUPPET for him, in violation of WP policy?

HE REVERTED A GOOD-FAITH EDIT, AND A GOOD MODIFICATION, SO HE COULD PUT BACK HIS BLATANT PRO-TRINITY STUFF ON A WP ARTICLE...WHERE IT DOES NOT BELONG.

I simply put in a modification, TO MAKE THE TONE LESS POV AND MORE NEUTRAL.

so what do you do? You revert what I did AGAIN, with the nonsense that "some maintain" is "weasel word" when it's NOT.

when has "some maintain" ever been considered by WP POLICY itself "weasel"? Huh??

what's against WP Policy is stating things that are in DISPUTE as incontrovertible fact. This idea that "the trinity doctrine was formulated before Nicaea" is SO in dispute, by many scholars, it's like not funny...

To say dogmatically on a WP article that "the trinity doctrine was formulated before Nicaea" is a MATTER OF OPINION. And is not accepted as historical or actual solid fact by all historians or scholars.

so why the big problem with "some maintain".

The "sources" thing in the rest of the paragraph that you mention has nothing to do with a blatantly biased POV statement right in the very first sentence! That should not really be there, if it's gonna be more neutral.

you say that "some maintain" is a weasel word, according to Misplaced Pages?  ?? huh?

where do you get that from? It's simply a FACT. Some believe that the trinity doctrine came before Nicaea, BUT NOT ALL DO.

Not all scholars believe that. So why would you be ok with leaving that point out? What's with you? YOU are engaging in an edit war by revering good-faith modifications, which was NOT vandalism, NOT "weasel"ish (weird how you would see it that way) and NOT inaccurate.

SOME believe this "before Nicaea" idea, BUT NOT ALL. So what's the problem in making the tone more neutral and objective, and less dogmatic?? The only ones "edit warring" are you and Martynas. I simply made a good-faith modification for more neutrality, that you mis-characterize as "weasel" (!!??!), and that you and the other editor are disrespectfully reverting, against WP policy. Only real vandalism should be reverted. "Some maintain" is NOT a 'weasel word' and never has been. But is simply a neutral statement of fact. Take it to the talk page.
