The New Teacher Project (TNTP) is a non-profit organization founded by Michelle Rhee that works with needy school districts to recruit and train new teachers.
History
The New Teacher Project (TNTP) was founded in 1997 by former Teach For America alumna Michelle Rhee with the aim of closing the achievement gap by providing high-need students with outstanding teachers. TNTP has trained approximately 37,000 teachers in thirty-one states, which has the effect of benefiting an estimated 5.9 million students nationwide. TNTP has garnered much attention nationwide for being an advocate of merit pay for teachers and using teacher effectiveness as a component for evaluations.
