Angel Locsín

Angélica Colmenares (born April 23, 1985), stage name Angel Locsín, is an actress from the Philippines who portrayed Darna in the GMA Network's television series with the same name.

Personal background

Locsín was born in Bulacan. She is second from three siblings. The surname Locsín was derived from her mother's maiden name.

Acting career

Locsín first appeared in Click, a now defunct teen-oriented program of GMA, as the tomboyish Charley (Charlotte). However, she only became widely known when she first appeared in the cover of FHM Philippines. The same magazine frequently lists her as one the "100 sexiest woman in the World", and only recently been named the sexiest Filipina, ranking No. 2 behind Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie.

After being cast in Click, GMA had given her various television shows like Love to Love and the sitcom All Together Now.

She starred as one of the two main leads in the ensemble cast of Mulawin. This is considered her biggest initial breaks in showbiz. After her role as the half-human, half-avian Alwina in Mulawin, she auditioned for the role of the female superhero for the Darna television series. She won the part hands down, chosen to don the red suit and crest among numerous actress who tried out.

Aside from television shows, Locsín also starred in films. Among them are Kuya, Mano Po 2, Singles, Sigaw and, only recently, the box-office hit Let The Love Begin, alongside perennial partner and crowd favorite Richard Gutierrez (who also happens to be her co-star in Mulawin and Sigaw). Her team-up with Gutierrez is considered by some as one of the best pairings in the country. She will reprise her role as Alwina in the upcoming Mulawin movie version.

Controversy

When Angel Locsín appeared in one of the Axe TV ads, many feminist groups, as well as former Senator Nikki Coseteng, complained about the offensive gestures in the advertisement. In the television commercial, Angel is teasing a man by showing off money and her body but the man approaches Angel and has taken only her money.

Because of the complaints, Unilever Philippines, the maker of Axe, slowly pulled out the commercial.
