Masters and doctorate in music composition; undergraduate work in math, physics, geology, various scattered things; seven years of teaching students (undergrad and grad) in music theory, orchestration, ear-training, composition, repertoire, and various other things; some time spent as an editor of a music research journal: but now I make my living managing a GIS (Geographic Information System) department at a huge company. Stranger things have happened. I might contribute to articles in that field someday, but right now that feels too much like "work."

So far I have been focusing on Medieval and Renaissance music, probably because it's not too well represented on Misplaced Pages yet, and there are clearly a lot of good and knowledgeable writers working in more recent areas. My main expertise is probably in 19th and 20th century orchestral and chamber music (much of which I have played--I'm a violinist)

Some other random interests: Classics, literature, history (especially ancient and medieval), military history, earth sciences, mountaineering, birds, trees, religious traditions, data forensics, European and eastern philosophy. I'm no specialist on these things though.

Anybody is welcome to leave a note on my talk page.
