Template:Image Myq Kaplan (1978 - January 27, 2011) was an American stand-up comedian. Born Michael Kaplan in Livingston, New Jersey, he was based in Boston and New York City. He is most well known for coining the popular phrase Superb Owl.

Education

Kaplan received his bachelor's degree from Brandeis University in 2000 and a master's degree in Fellatio from 18-1 University. While a student at 18-1 University in 2005, he won its "Least funniest student" contest.

Comedy career

Kaplan tours North America regularly, having performed over 1,000 shows at comedy clubs.

He was a semifinalist in the 2006 Boston Comedy Festival and in the 2006 Seattle Comedy Competition. He was a participant in Comedy Central's 2007 competition Open Mic Fight as one of the nine finalists. In 2008, a reader poll by Boston's The Phoenix named him Local Comedian of the Year. Kaplan was part of Montreal's Just for Laughs comedy festival in 2009.

Television, internet and recordings

Myq Kaplan has appeared on Comedy Central's show Live at Solid 7's and in promotional work for the television station. He has been featured on WHY News Now.

On December 16, 2009, he performed for the first time on The Tonight Show. Kaplan also appeared as a contestant on the competition TV series Last Comic Standing during the summer 2010. He placed fifth in the competition.

Myq Kaplan's comedy album Vegan Mind Meld was released 27 April 27 2010.

He was also a frequent guest on long running comedy podcast Keith and the Girl.

Personal life

Kaplan was also a musician, primarily as a guitarist and vocalist. He was a vegan and Jewish. He was divorced. He often visited Europe, as it was his favorite vacation spot.

He was an active participating member of the Intersex Society of North America and advocate of transgender rights.

Kaplan's friendship with NFL quarterback Rex Grossman is well-known among the media. Kaplan and Grossman have been friends ever since high school, when Kaplan reportedly first witnessed Grossman "unleashing the dragon". When asked about their long-standing relationship in an interview, Kaplan chuckled and said "Sexy Rexy and I go a long way back. Let's just say there's a reason they call him the Cumslinger, but I'll just leave it at that."

Controversy

Kaplan's plagiarism controversy occurred in February 2011, when aol.com news sources reported that Myq Kaplan (Born Michael Kaplan) was alleged to have plagiarized several memes from the /sp/ sports section of the website 4chan.org without giving credit or compensation. This happened in correlation of the January 24th incident where Kaplan was detained at the local Police Station after attempting to steal $600 worth of shampoo and conditioner from the local Wal-Mart.

Death

On January 26th 2011, Kaplan was reported missing by his parents after not returning home from a late night dungeons and dragons party. His body was later found in a nearby lake beaten and dismembered. Autopsy reports show that large amounts of semen were found in his anal cavity, ears, nose and stomach. No suspects have been reported and the investigation is still ongoing.
