He played for Ipswich Town F.C., Middlesbrough F.C. and Celtic F.C. as a tough centre half and is now manager of Scottish Premier League team Hibernian F.C.
During his playing career with Glasgow Celtic, Mowbray's wife, Bernadette Doyle Mowbray, a native of Renfrewshire, died of breast cancer. The dignified manner in which he handled this tragedy won him respect from all sides of Scottish football.
