Location of Kotlassky District within Arkhangelsk Oblast

Kotlassky District (Template:Lang-ru) is a district (raion) of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, located in the southeast of the oblast. Its administrative center is Kotlas. District's population: 24,964 (2002 Census); 32,800 (1989 Soviet census).

Location and geography

The district is located at both banks of Northern Dvina river and its main right tributary, Vychegda. In fact, Northern Dvina and Vychegda divide the district into three comparable (by size) areas. The district does not include the cities of Kotlas and Koryazhma, which are technically located at its territory but are subordinate directly to the government of Arkhangelsk Oblast. The only town which belongs to the district is Solvychegodsk.

Kotlassky District borders 4 other districts in Arkhangelsk Oblast — Ustyansky District to the West, Krasnoborsky District to the North, Lensky District to the North-East.
