Lanix is a Mexican electronics manufacturing company based in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. The largest domestically owned computer maker, it manufactures computers and also sells computer components as well as smartphones.

History

In 1995, Lanix released its first computer, named PC 286, which was sold in Mexico and was the first personal computer made in large numbers by a domestic firm that saw widespread sales. Lanix products are assembled in Mexico and Chile.

At the 2009 Intel Solutions Summit hosted by Intel, Lanix won an award in the "mobile solution" category.

In March 2011, Lanix began offering a system where buyers can custom build their own computer from the bottom up, choosing different types of chipsets, memory systems, and other components.

Products

As of 2010, Lanix makes desktop, tablet, & laptop computers,television capable displays and computers,, hard disk drives, LED displays,LCD displays, netbooks, smartphones, various optical drives, and servers. It makes the Lanix Titan Magnum Extreme, one of the most powerful production Windows desktops in the world.

In 2007, Lanix announced a newly formed branch of the firm, Lanix Mobile. This division specializes in developing smartphones and other mobile electronic hardware. In 2010, Lanix revealed a new smartphone called the Ilium running Android operating system. Starting in 2010 America Movil, the fourth largest telecom company in the world, began selling Lanix smartphones through it's Telcel branch.

In 2010, Lanix unveiled the Lanix W-10, a tablet computer running Windows 7. An Android version will be available through Telcel.

Mexican government contracts

Lanix has won several contracts to provide electronics to government entities in Mexico. In 2010 it also won a contract from the Mexican secretary of education to supply schools with computers.
