Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

New York City Subway rolling stock (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Several IP users have been saying that R32s are running on the A and R46s are running on the C. While this seems true based on numerous photos and videos on railfan sites and YouTube, we do not have official confirmation from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority that these cars have new assignments. We only include what the actual assignments, which are found on the external links of each rolling stock article, are. We do not include temporary reassignments, which this happens to be the case. It is likely that the A will return to 100% R46s and the C to 100% R32s by Fall. What car type actually runs on each line changes every day and is different from what the actual assignments are. Richard Jenne (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Full-protect. User Jesanj is absurdly reverting and tagging this article (Richard Jenne) arguing that the source does not claim that this kid was the last victim killed under the nazi euthanasia program although the well cited references But he insists to include tags, asking for verifiability, but he does not verify the sources. It seem he does not know really enough about the topic, so it seems he hardly understand the reasons, although I have very detailed explained and referenced the thing at the talk page. Now he has reached 3 reverts and I do myself do not want to cross the 3RR boundary. ClaudioSantos¿? 00:41, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Hmmm, I have proposed this page for deletion. It is not a notable enough topic for its own wiki article. Jabbsworth (talk) 01:47, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

You might want to look at Misplaced Pages:Cleaning up vandalism for more advice on how to handle vandalism when you spot it. In particular, warning the vandal and eventually reporting them (for example, to WP:AIV) helps us track vandalism and block where appropriate. Regards, causa sui (talk) 21:39, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

    Template:US Chief Executives (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Permanent semi-protection - Falls under WP:HRT, the template would have no need to change unless there's some sort of major design revolution or the political status of a state/territory changes, which is a fairly infrequent occurrence. That, coupled with the fact that it's transcluded on pages relating to the governors of every state (all of which are high profile) should lead to its permanent semi-protection. AP1787 (talk) 14:05, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Protection of my user page seams a waste of time as I don't appear a target for vandalism. So unprotection please, user request within own userspace. . Ruth-2013 (talk) 23:35, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Unprotection: The user who the content dispute/edit warnings problems have been with has been banned for 1 week see here for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Starcade

However in the past this article has had issues with IP's so would like to see it semi protected if possible but as user:starcade has a week off at the minute the full protection seams over kill. Also there was clear consensus on the talk page not to add his edits, this is what started all the issues as he would ignore everyone who had policy based arguments as well as the consensus. Anyway I propose the full protection be taken off as the user is not here for the next week anyway and hope you will replace it with semi if possible. . Ruth-2013 (talk) 22:38, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Talk:Murder of Meredith Kercher (edit | article | history | links | watch | logs)

Unprotection: High profile talk pages should NOT be indefinitely protected. Unacceptable. . Merrill Stubing (talk) 22:13, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) Talk page was semi-protected almost two months ago due to its becoming a sock magnet. The high-profile nature of the article and its associated Talk page, IMO, makes unprotection an operational experiment more than a matter of policy. Until the case reaches its ultimate conclusion, that will likely remain its state of affairs. --Alan the Roving Ambassador (User:N5iln) (talk) 22:49, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Protection should remain. We've made more progress by keeping the off-site coordinated socks out as much as possible. We've also seen a reduction in threads raised at ANI over the article. Fully concur with Alan's assessment.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
