Felix G. Rohatyn (born May 29, 1928 in Vienna, Austria) is an American businessman and investment banker with a long and distinguished career in public service. He is married to Elizabeth Fly Rohatyn and has three children.

Career in finance

Mr. Rohatyn is a holocaust survivor. His family lived in France from 1934 to 1942. They fled the Nazi occupation, escaping the country with forged papers. He is alive today because a guard chose to light his cigarette and wave his family on rather than scrutinize their paperwork.

He received his a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1949 following which he joined the New York office of the investment bank Lazard Frères under André Meyer. He was made a partner in the firm in 1961 and later becoming Managing Director.

Diplomacy and Foreign Policy credentials

Rohatyn served as United States Ambassador to France from 1997 to 2000 during the second Clinton Administration and is a Commander in the French Legion of Honor. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
