Genre edit

Why should there be a dash in "hip hop"? The article hip hop music has no dash in its title. Dan56 (talk) 17:10, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

I did not notice the capital "H". Went back and fixed it. Dan56 (talk) 18:06, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

November 2011

Please refrain from changing genres, as you did to Speak Now, without providing a source and without establishing a consensus on the article's talk page first. Genre changes to suit your own point of view are considered disruptive. Thank you. Dan56 (talk) 17:13, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to change genres without discussion or sources, as you did at You Make Me Wanna..., you may be blocked from editing. Dan56 (talk) 18:08, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

This is the final warning that you will receive regarding continued genre changing without discussion or sources. If you choose to continue, as you did at Dirty Situation, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Dan56 (talk) 18:14, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Pitbull (rapper)

Please do not move pages, especially one that is high-profile such as that one, without forming WP:CONSENSUS on the talk page. That page move was disruptive. Also I seem to be having problems with you with violations of WP:MOS#MUSIC and WP:CRYSTAL on articles such as Lil Wayne please read these guidelines before reverting. You already got blocked once for disruptive editing, you really don't want a longer block. Thanks Secret 05:43, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Block

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 72 hours for persistently changing genres without attempt to gain consensus and without providing sources, despite being previously blocked for the same. Your constructive contributions are the only reason this block isn't significantly longer—please stop, discuss, and provide sources. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. • Take some advice, please. One, you may, for instance, well have a point about this rap/hip hop thing, but asking others to go through other edits to look for your reason is not productive: explain right then and there, and stop reverting but rather engage in conversation. Two, don't confuse other editors--I had to go through the history to figure out that this lyriclegendlover is you. You are now blocked again for doing the same things you did before; any subsequent block will be longer, and very quickly it will be an indefinite block. Don't let it get that far. Good luck. Request reason:

Each time I want to change a genre, I will stop. And go to the talk page. And start a new section and reach a consensus. And I have a reason for the "rap" problem that I will give to every page I edit when I remove "rap". I UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM. BUT I NEED TO BE UNBLOCKED BECAUSE I KNOW NOT TO DO IT AGAIN.

Decline reason:

Your unblock might be considered if you will promise not to change any genres on music articles ever again. If you think a music genre is wrong, you would still be allowed to post on the article's talk page and make your proposal there. Be aware that if you keep on changing genres and make no concessions, your next block may be indefinite. EdJohnston (talk) 03:17, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Copy-and-paste move: Birdman

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Misplaced Pages. It appears that you recently tried to give Birdman (rapper) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Birdman (entertainer). This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Misplaced Pages has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. Of course, first you should make sure there is consensus for the move. I could not find any discussion or even an explanation from you of what the move's rationale is. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Misplaced Pages:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 08:15, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

I do know how to move pages. But this page wasn't allowed to be moved. So instead I did the cut and paste move. Ian Streeter 12:16, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
If an article is protected against being moved, then don't you think there might be a good reason for it? You must not take it upon yourself to try to circumvent that protection. And you must *never* do a cut and paste move, as that loses the article history (which is required to be retained for copyright reasons). If an article is protected against being moved and you really think it should be, then you should ask for it to be done on the Talk page and explain your reasons - then if there is a consensus in agreement with you, someone with sufficient rights will move it for you. In fact, for any proposed move, you should really seek consensus on the Talk page first, even if the article is not protected -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 00:30, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
