Vinay Kumar pronunciation(Template:Lang-kn) (born February 12, 1984) is an Indian cricket player who has played for India at Test and One Day International (ODI) levels and plays domestically for the state of Karnataka. He has also played in the Indian Premier League for the Bangalore Royal Challengers and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. He is a right-arm medium fast bowler.
Personal life
He did his schooling at Mothi Veerappa Government School, Davanagere, Karnataka. He completed his B.Com from ARG College of Arts and Commerce, Davanagere, Karnataka.
Achievements
He was the second-highest wicket taker (with 40) in the 2007-08 Ranji Trophy. He was also named as the "Domestic Bowler of the Year".
He was the highest wicket taker in the 2009-2010 Domestic Season (Ranji and Duleep Trophy) and was selected for the Indian Team for the T20 World Cup. He made his ODI debut in the tri-series in Zimbabwe.
Inclusion in T20 World Cup Squad
After good performance in IPL 2010, Vinay Kumar was selected in Indian Squad for 2010 World Twenty20. He did well in the only outing he got against Sri Lanka taking two wickets although he ended up on the losing side.He is selected to the team for ODIs against England in August 2011.He has retained his place for the first two ODIs of the five match ODI series against England slated to be held in October 2011. In that series he took 4 wickets to lead India to a win at Delhi. He took 4/31 in his 8 overs including a wicket maiden.
Test debut
Vinay Kumar made his Test debut for India in the third Test of the 2011–12 tour of Australia in Perth. His opportunity came as India chose to take four pace bowlers into the match; he replaced spinner R Ashwin. He took one wicket (that of Michael Hussey) for 73 runs in Australia's first and only innings of the match.
