At his peak weight, he was around 1400 lb (635 kg). This figure was only calculated though due to the fact that he was too heavy and in too bad of a condition to be able to be weighed.
He suffered from obesity since he was a child. At the age of 12, he weighed 292 lb (132 kg) and was 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m). His weight grew and grew until he was hospitalized in March 1978. He had congestive heart failure, which caused him to accumulate too much water. It took a dozen firemen and a specially modified stretcher to get him to the hospital. He was then put on two beds pushed together and it took 13 people to roll him over.
He was discharged from the hospital after two years on a diet. He weighed 476 lb (216 kg), the greatest weight loss by any human. However, he was readmitted to the hospital a year later because he had doubled his weight to 952 lb (432 kg). He died on September 10, 1983 at a weight of 798 lb (362 kg).
