Kibbutz Bror Hayil

The village was established on 10 April 1948 on Jewish National Fund land, funded by Keren HaYesod. According to Israeli historian Benny Morris, the founding date was May 18.The founders were mostly immigrants from Egypt. Soon after its foundation, it became the target kibbutz of the Brazilian branch of the Zionist youth movement Dror, and later Dror Habonim. Today many residents are immigrants from Brazil.

Bror Hayil was the only Jewish village founded between the UN Partition Plan and the Israeli declaration of independence.

According to Arab historian Walid Khalidi, it was established on the land of a depopulated Palestinian village named Burayr.
