August 20 1977 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine rugby union footballer. He plays as a fly-half / centre for Leinster Rugby in Ireland, previously for Bristol Shoguns in England.
Contepomi played more than 45 caps with Los Pumas, and has been occasionally its captain.
He started playing rugby for Newman, in Buenos Aires.
He recently played a major role in Leinster's 41-35 win over the Heineken Cup holders Toulouse, scoring 21 points in the process and winning the man of the match award.
Largely as a result of his attacking play and characteristic panache, he has built up a cult following among many Leinster supporters. However on by far the biggest day of his club-career in the April 23rd European Cup Semi-Final against Irish provincial rivals, Munster, Contepomi had what is known as a "shocker" , as his team went down 30-6 in a game Leinster were tipped by the media to win with Contepomi expected to be the fulcrum of the Leinster team.
