Some Preston University campuses are accredited and recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, which is the primary regulator of higher education in Pakistan. Preston University has charters from the Pakistan provinces of Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for campuses in Karachi and Kohat, respectively. In 2011, when a committee of the Sindh government reported that it had evaluated and "graded" the 21 private institutions chartered in the province, the highest grade was six stars, given to two institutions. One institution got the lowest grade of three stars; three, including Preston University and Preston Institute of Management Sciences and Technology, were given four stars; and most of the schools received five stars.
