Metropolitan University (Template:Lang-bn) or MU is a nongovernmental institution in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The university was established on 3 May 2003 under the Private University Act 1992. Dr. Toufique Rahman Chowdhury is the chairman of MU.

The widespread growth of private universities in the country has generated some confusion in the minds of the conscious people as to whether these universities can conform to the fundamental principles of imparting the realistic education of a standard university. Metropolitan University has been established as a unique institution for those who want to have quality university education of the modern age at an affordable cost.

Dr. Chowdhury, a promising educationist and an enterpreneur, engineered the idea of floating the Metropolitan University with the direct participation and assistance of a few of his close friends, acquaintances, and associates with the main objective of promoting modern education, particularly, higher and advance education in the spheres of learning to help build up an educated nation — fully realizing that such an enterprise might add only a mite to the vast field of higher education.

This is a social commitment of Metropolitan University to the nations for promoting better education to meet the changing needs of the 21st century. The university will serve the citizens of Bangladesh and other countries through its instructional, research and outreach programs and prepare them to respond successfully to the challenges of a global economy. In the delivery of educational programs on campus and beyond, the university will draw heavily upon the new instruction and outreach technologies in the emerging information age.
