Back to part-timing, losing the love. But don't forget, I will get to every FLC and I will reply to comments I made on them. No need to hit me with "talkback" templates. If you're feeling particularly WP:BOLD, leave me a message here and update my to-do list!

Misplaced Pages:Featured article candidates/Somerset County Cricket Club in 2009/archive3

Hey TRM, I was bold and added this to your to-do list already, but I have addressed your points at the FAC (User:Sarastro1's are still outstanding though). Would you be able to revisit it when you can, particularly in relation to the accessibility of the tables. Kind regards, Harrias 23:23, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Have revisited the comments I made, the article is very much improved, thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:58, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

TFL message

I have left a message at Misplaced Pages talk:Today's featured list which I would like for you to respond to in your FL-Director capacity. This is also Sven Manguard 20:32, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Cheers, I've responded. Perhaps you and others could respond in your FL-reviewers capacity to the question over process of TFL selection, which currently isn't addressed at all. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:46, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Northamptonshire County Cricket Club

There's been quite a lot of rather low-level sillinesses going on at this article for a number of days and I'm wondering whether it needs some temporary protection. Perhaps you could take a look. Thanks. Johnlp (talk) 21:13, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Its a single user, so there's no real benefit to protecting. I've warned the IP in question, if it happens again file a report at WP:AIV and they'll be blocked. Oldelpaso (talk) 21:28, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Johnlp (talk) 21:38, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
I've added it to my watchlist, it looks quiet right now, but if it ramps up again, I'll protect it. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:00, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

FLC question

Could I nominate List of film directors of the Dutch East Indies? The nomination for List of films of the Dutch East Indies has two supports, no opposes, and has been there for 3 weeks. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:41, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

I don't see a major problem with that at all, good luck. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:01, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Would you like to join Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Featured lists? Thanks, TBrandley 02:08, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

You do great work

Please don't take the current discussion at TFL as criticism of your work. You do an amazing job. Some great points are being raised and I think your representation of the TFL community is crucial in these discussions. --Another Believer (Talk) 15:47, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes. As the person that started this mess I have to completely echo Another Believer. You do an amazing job. This is also Sven Manguard 18:42, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you both. I have added what I consider to be an action plan. We've just got to get on with it. I wasn't aware how many people considered TFL to be, well, broken. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:39, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

About deleting the page Kumar Parakala

Hi there, This is regarding the article "Kumar Parakala". The article that was being considered for deletion was the old one and was subsequently deleted as of 23rd May 2011. A new article with the same name was created and was in existence for almost 2 months. I have been in contact with wikipedia through out the process and the article was wriiten in a manner that wiki approves of. Can you please explain why is the article deleted even though there has been no recent talks about deleting the article. PriyankaLewis (talk) 06:38, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Priyanka Lewis

Yes, it was deleted under criterion A8 which allows the deletion of pages which have previously been deleted following an WP:AFD discussion. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:45, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

But the page that was deleted was a previous one and had content without proper citations and references. The present article was not being considered for deletion. The present article was written in a manner which was within wiki parameters. it was not being considered for deletion too. Can you please check it properly once. There seems to be some confusion PriyankaLewis (talk) 06:55, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Priyanka Lewis

I suggest you take the issue to WP:DRV. The Rambling Man (talk) 06:58, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Can you please look at the recent updates from Deletion review WP:DRV. http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2012_September_26 . Does it mean the article will be revived for further editing? PriyankaLewis (talk) 13:05, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Priyanka Lewis

Thanks for the undeletion. It would be really helpful if you can help me make the article better. I don't know if its a valid request but would be really happy if you can give me a few pointers on how to make the article better. Thanks PriyankaLewis (talk) 13:22, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Priyanka Lewis

Szybowcowy Zakład Doświadczalny (note on Jeżów)

Most likely http://pl.wikipedia.org/Je%C5%BC%C3%B3w_Sudecki (there is an en page as well). I hope to write a pl article on the subject (SZD) some time towards December, I will then update the en version (tons of sources in Polish). It is a shame there is no PL article on SZD, but I hope to slowly fix this and other gliding related content in PL. Admiration for your work :-). For a while (10 days) I might be incommunicado. FLRCClosed

Hiyo. You probably already know, and it's on a list of things to be fixed, but just in case... ;)

The {{FLRCClosed}} template that you added to WP:Featured list removal candidates/List of works of William Gibson/archive1 doesn't exist. I looked around, specifically at the closing instructions, but couldn't see a mention of it anywhere. Possibly Gimmebot simply doesn't care that the template is nonexistent? If so, it might be helpful to make the link blue, for purely human benefit (to stop people like me from trying to diagnose/fix it ;)

TFL Changes

Hi TRM,

Thank you for contacting me personally and explaning the TFL changes. This is probably going to be a better way to process the blurbs in the long run, although the change I would most like to see is to have a TFL more than once a week. I've added two blurb suggestions to the new system that had already been established by the old system. Would it be best if I didn't have more than two there at a time? I would be glad to fill up the rest of the slots if that's allowed under the new system.

Neelix (talk) 14:39, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey Neelix, we're up to nine already so I guess no. I'm moving away from being involved in the process for a bit, it was a real surprise to me to see a few colleagues really express their disappointment in the way it had gone, particularly since, other than me, only WFC and you had shown any real interest in the way the process was running. I won't be selecting TFLs for a while now and hope that a fresh approach from other people might invigorate the process or encourage more input. Thanks again for all the effort you put into TFL version 1.0, I couldn't have done it without you, and I hope you're as proud as I am of getting decent quality, relevant FLs on the main page. I hope it continues to succeed! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:13, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
TRM, I hope you don't believe that my comments were intended to be critical of the job you have done at TFL. You have done the best job you can with the lists that we have been given to work with, not to mention that you are the main reason TFL got off the ground at all. I hope you will come back to selecting TFLs at some point in the near-future. Giants2008 (Talk) 16:19, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

TFL prep renomination list

Hi TRM, I saw the TFL prep page was archived so I wondered if I need to renominate Israel State Cup list in the submissions page or it doesn't needed, as the list will appear in the main page even tho the prep was archived.
  – HonorTheKing (talk) 01:26, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Yep, it'll need to be renominated, but no more than ten nominations should exist at once. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

TFLs

Hi, what happened to those lists who were on the waiting page? will they appear some day on the main page? Zia Khan 20:11, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

They need to be renominated at the submissions page, and note there should be no more than ten lists nominated there at any one time in total. If you have any further queries, please start a discussion at WT:TFL. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:16, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

General thoughts

I've seen you around quite a bit and you seem fairly sensible, you might find my thoughts at Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_adminship#Surveyed_comments of passing interest. MBisanz 20:45, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm far from sensible I'm afraid. As the current WP:BN discussion about quick re-sysops is proving. But I'll take a look in any case. Thanks for the invitation. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:49, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Please look at List of Australian Olympic medalists in swimming, above. Thanks.--Lucky102 (talk) 21:21, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

New section

Hey TRM, not sure if you are aware of this, but Tbrandley closed this list citing Misplaced Pages:Non-admin closure. The link seems to be about the deletion process, also I'm not sure if this is allowed or not, seems pointless having directors if users take it upon themselves to close noms. Anyway, just thought I'd bring it to your attention, as I'm still inexperienced closing noms. NapHit (talk) 20:33, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

I agree, that shouldn't have happened, particularly if Tbrandley hasn't done all the other bits and pieces (like list it as failed nomination, updated the logs etc). Suggest you nudge him about that and ensure all procedures have been followed correctly so it's all accounted for. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:48, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

No. That would be utterly ridiculous. Would you find a rumours section in Encyclopedia Britannica? The Rambling Man (talk) 20:10, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Well we allow conspiracy theories here, so why not this belief? Let's be honest, Misplaced Pages isn't the best establishment in te world is it? People expect some inaccuracy. 144.124.24.57 (talk) 09:29, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Good Articles of the Month

Each month, 5 random good articles will be choose to be featured here as the good articles of the month.

Some Tips About References/Sources

Having references included in articles is one of the most important aspects to a good article, let alone Misplaced Pages! Without them, no one would ever know what is true and what is false and Misplaced Pages probably wouldn't be where it is today. So this month, I will talk about how to check for references, how reliable they are, and so on and so forth.

The first thing to do when reviewing an nominee is to do a quick scan of the article. One of the things to look for is if the article has references! If you don't see a list at the bottom of the article page, quick-fail it. For newcomers, quick-failing is failing an article when you spot a problem before actually conducting a full review. If you do find a list of references (and in most cases you will) make sure to look through each and every one. If you want to save some time, use this tool as it will tell you if there are any problematic references in the article you are reviewing.

Next, check the reliability and type of the references/sources. In terms of the type of reference, check to see how many primary and/or secondary sources are included. Primary sources are the ones published by the subject of the article. For example, if the subject of the article has to do with the iPhone 4s and the source is published by Apple, it is considered a primary source. Secondary sources are those not published by the subject of the article (or in close relation to it). Newspapers are examples of secondary sources and considered one of the better types to include in the article (not saying primary sources are bad). If you find that most/all of the references are primary sources, notify the nominator about this issue(s) and place the article on hold once you have completed the review. Only in the event that a secondary source can't be found as a replacement, then the primary source can remain. If there is a good mix of primary and secondary sources, that is perfect and no references need to be changed.

Now, reliability. Forums are generally not considered reliable and some blog's may not be reliable either. Newspapers, most sources published by the subject, some blogs, etc. are considered reliable. If you don't know wether the source is reliable, ask for a second opinion. For more info about how to identify wether a reference is reliable or not, visit this article.

Finally, one of the more basic things to look for is that every statement in the article has at least one reference! The only case that a statement doesn't need a reference is when it is common sense that the statement is defiantly true and/or in the case where the statement can't be challenged, as per what Misplaced Pages says, "All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable published source using an inline citation."

Did You Know...
  • ... that 2,100 articles have been reviewed during all backlog elimination drives combined?
  • ... that out of 4,055,039 articles on Misplaced Pages, only 15,846 are good articles?
  • ... that there are currently over 400 video game good articles?
Notes
  1. As of October 2, 2012 at 19:05 (UTC).
  2. Before quick-failing the article, verify that one of the several referencing templates is correctly placed at the bottom of the article. If the template is not placed, try to place it to see if references are displayed. If this proof returns no references, then proceed to quick-failing.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2012–13 Ipswich Town F.C. season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Will Buckley (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Categories in sandbox

Many thanks for taking the time to explain about the removal of categories from my sandbox by user:Alan Liefting. I have contacted him to suggest he should explain why he is doing this in the first instance. It would save time and quite a bit of -ve feelings when people think someone is just blatantly removing text from their sandbox. Once again - Many thanks.__DrChrissy (talk) 16:02, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi

I hate to give other people any sort of advice, but I think your comments on Alan Liefting's talk page are probably not going to convince him soon if they haven't already. It might be worth considering just letting it go for now. I'm an uninvolved admin who separately left a note on his talk page about the "vandalism" thing. If anything else happens, you can always leave a note on my talk page and I will look into it. I don't want to get into a long discussion, I'm just commenting here to try to calm things a little. — Carl (CBM · talk) 19:38, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
